I thought it was a bit clumsy and overwrought and Jensen did a damn fine job with some truly clunky material. And the more I think about the actual plot the more nonsensical it becomes in terms of pre-established canon.
So, I'm gonna go to bed before I think about it any harder than I already have. Because I love Show, and Show is allowed to crash and burn every once in a while. *pets it*
Lol. I kinda enjoyed it. Twas a bit anvilicious, yes, but I wasn't particularly bothered. In fact, the only thing that did bother me was that I thought the actors playing Mary and John weren't very good. Also, I don't buy that John was that sweet and innocent, not after war.
But overall, I liked it and at the risk of sound stoooopid I didn't really pick anything too nonsensical...
Maybe I was blinded by Jensen because, well, he's just awesome isn't he?
*facepalm* I know. I'm overthinking. But if Mary's a hunter, and she made that deal with the YED, and he said he would be back in ten years...
Is she really that blind? That at some point after that night she isn't going to put two and two together with surprisingly distraught (and mysteriously disappearing) Dean-guy's warning about Nov 2 1983. Because to my mind, those two things sound like a perfect recipe for LAYING IN WAIT FOR THE MOFO WITH YOUR HUNTER-FU SMACK THE FUCK ON.
Not wandering bleary-eyed and half asleep into your FIERY DEATH.
Like I said. Totally going to bed now. *pets Show again*
ETA: Actually, it just occurred to me: The woman had a four year old and six month old kid. I take it all back. She probably hadn't had two straight hours sleep since 1979.
i'm kind of amazed. i thought it was the only one who was disappointed. you know there's a problem when you watch a show and start thinking "it's okay, i just need to wait for the fanfiction to fix this."
Yeah, you know what I am kinda panicking about right now? I really liked the first two episodes, and I'm a Dean!girl, but my alarm bells are going off in GRAND FASHION about Sam, because...
*waves arms wildly* WE'RE GONNA NEED TO SOUND THE SUBMARINE THINGY AND PLUNGE AT SOME POINT, KRIPKE.
Dude, I'm watching Sam, and I just have CRICKETS inside my head. I have no clue what's going on with the boy, and not in a mysterious "ooooooh" way. Just a cardboard-cutout-wtf?-zero-character-development kinda way.
I wouldn't know where to start on a S4 fic right now because hoooooly dooooooly, am I just thick? There's NOTHING I feel inclined to latch onto between these guys and explore. I feel like shaking them both and shouting: Dudes. Let's REACT to something, shall we? At some stage? EVER?
yeah, I didn't love this one either. It all seemed so unnecessary. Did Mary really need to be a hunter? I woulda kinda preferred that she wasn't, that it all started with her death.
And is it just me, or have we jumped back to the season 2 angst of, what is the demon plan for Sam, and Dean has to save him or kill him.
ah well, I loved it for one. but I am kinda approving this looking forward to Nano for the benefits that may come out of it. you know. selfishly speaking.
LOL. Well, NaNo is oh-reeg-inal fic month for a Dragons this time round, so I dunno if any of it will see the light of day under the incarnation you all know me as here.
Ne'er the twains shall meet, gottalovev. Neeeee'er the twains shall meet. *taps side of nose*
I'm of a mixed mind. Some good stuff, some kind of not. Jensen....well, Jensen could be in a tampon commercial and I'd be in awe. (no, Dragons, that's not what I meant. Sheesh.) I actually liked the OCs and the way Carver flipped the personalities so that Mary was hardass and John was the naive innocent. And at least at the end, Castiel didnt' say Dean would have to kill Sam-the angelic hit squad would do it instead. At first I was irritated that Dean was brought back just to take care of the angels' "Sam" problem but I realized he's also needed to take care of the angels' Lilith/Lucifer problem and the "what was YED up to" problem. So, not that Dean's anybody special, he's just a good problem solver
( ... )
I'm working on the novel for NaNo this year. *grimaces*
And look, I also enjoyed several aspects of this episode, but... for one thing, I didn't buy John at all. Physically, he was a fairly impressive piece of casting, but... no. I get that we're supposed to buy he was this naive little mechanic who got conscripted, but... my experience of military boys? They is not really sweet. They is mostly pretty hard-ass and crass. They might turn on the manners for company, but they don't buy COMBIS. I saw that van and I was like *facepalms* Oh, Christ. Really? I mean, REALLY, Show? No. His mates would pound his head into the pavement until he was dead from it. Nineteen seventy-three or no.
*sighs* And yes, they really need to start DOING stuff with Sam, or I am going to accidentally rest my lime and soda on him or something.
