Apparently, November is Native American month (possibly with the words "Heritage" or "Culture" or "History" thrown in there, I didn't bother checking.) This strikes me as kind of a fucked up thing to do - just another continuation of the tradition of giving the Native Americans the shaft

And I agree, the snowman really adds a something to this dance.
Around here, we have a lot of the tribes doing pow-wows and drum circles, as well as a number of reservations. Surprisngly (and happily) there does seem to be a fair amount of interest among my generation and younger in keeping their traditions.
Hmm, let see, I am largely of various slavic ethnic origins. What can I celebrate? Stalin's killing times? Vodka (blech). The Demise of the Romanovs? The um, starting of perestroka and the Polish Labor Movement? Oh my grandmother was from Slovakia - maybe I can celebrate something from there....nope. Not really.
Fuck this. I will stick to Yule and just steal from other traditions.
