re the email - Glad I haven't taken that type of call. Anyone who studies with me *must* have a piano. Electric keyboards (PSO - piano shaped object) are acceptable for the first year of study provided it has full sized 88 wieghted keys and is touch sensitive. I don't teach on a keyboard, I teach on a piano - 2 different instruments. A lot of parents I talk to about this don't know the difference until I tell them.
I've seen some good deals on Craigslist. Just this morning there was a 6' grand for $600!! I'd have to go check it out, but that could be an incredibly awesome deal. If I had the money and the space, I'd buy it in a heart beat.
I think the woman was truly clueless how much of a commitment piano study is.
I adore this icon! I can't remember when/where I found it, but it is made of awesome! *g*
Thanks. :D Someday I'd like to try the Bay to Breakers race in San Francisco.
re the email - People just don't realize that piano is not a sport where you go to a practice once or twice a week. It's a commitment to a certain number of hours of personal practice a week. It's like learning to read. It doesn't happen over night and you have to practice at it daily to progress.
