$1-FOR-A-DRABBLE Hiroki is doing homework in one of the tables under the lush greens of the university garden. Engrossed on the math problem he's trying to solve, he didn't notice that Ryo is sitting beside him and on the verge of sulking for being ignored. Ryo must have thought of an idea because his pout was replaced with a mischievous smile.
"Hiro," he called out the other man. When the said man faced him, he immediately kissed him on the lips.
"Ryo! What the hell?!" Hiroki, with red face and racing heartbeat, sputtered but shorter man has the look that says, "Serves you right for ignoring me!" Reflexively, he looked around to see if there's anyone who has seen them.
"Now that I got your attention, let's go on a date!" Ryo declared as he gather his things, leaving the taller man with an incredulous look on his face.
"Don't look at me like that unless you want me to kiss you again," he joked but even before Hiro can protest, Ryo is already kissing him. The kiss was soft and slow making Hiro melt in the other man's arms. "You did want me to kiss you again," Ryo said after the kiss.
"Baka!" Hiroki said, still blushing.
Ryo and Hiroki met when the latter moved into town and they have been best friends since then. As to when their feelings changed from friendship to love, neither of them can pick an exact point in time. So when Ryo gathered up his courage and confessed, Hiroki accepted it without thinking twice.
They have been going out for a few months now and things are going smoothly so far. Well, almost. Hiro is still not comfortable with showing their affections in public to which Ryo has no problems with. In fact, it was the latter who doesn't hesitate in kissing or holding Hiro in public. It wasn't because he's ashamed of their relationship, Hiro just thinks it's inappropriate and the fact that Ryo is quite popular within the campus. He doesn't want people to think differently of the two of them. It's still because of a lot of luck that they have not been seen by anyone yet.
Hiro is running late in meeting Ryo. They were supposed to meet after class but he got tied up in discussing a project with his groupmates. He found his boyfriend at the meeting place surrounded by some of his classmates. Hiro hesitated but Ryo waved at him so he reluctantly approached the group.
Ryo met him about half-way and greeted him with a peck on his lips. Hiro wished he would shrink and disappear right at that moment because of embarrassment. Ryo, on the other hand, doesn't seem to mind any of it and dragged Hiro to meet his classmates who are looking shocked with what they've witnessed.
"Guys, I'd like you to meet Hiro--"
"Wait! Isn't Hiro your best friend?" One girl interrupted.
"Yeah, he's Hiro, my best friend--"
"Dude, you just kissed your best friend?!" a guy commented.
"If you just let me finish the introductions you would know," Ryo said with a glare. "This is Hiro, my best friend and boyfriend," he finished with a smug look on his face.
Hiro, meanwhile, looks like he's melting from the glares the girls in the group are throwing at him which didn't go unnoticed to Ryo who became protective.
"Don't look at Hiro like that. I'm the one who confessed first, okay? If you have a problem with my preference, deal with it," he said and guided Hiroki away from the group. He never once doubted Ryo's feelings for him and the lengths the other man would go through just to prove that. But the scene earlier made Hiro think if he's ready to deal with those kinds of things.
They drove silently towards Ryo's apartment. Once they were inside and seated on the couch, Ryo hugged him tight, like a kid asking for comfort. Hiroki hugged him and stroke his back making Ryo hum in contentment.
"They shouldn't look at you that way," he mumbled. "If there's anyone they should glare at, it should be me."
Hiroki realized that it doesn't matter what people think or how they look at them. Seeing Ryo happy and smiling is what matters.
"If they look at you that way, then I'd be the one to snap back at them," he consoled his boyfriend. "I know I've been embarrassed and shy about showing affection in public. But I guess I'll get used to it. And people might get used to seeing us together too, right?"
"Does that mean, it's okay if I kiss and grope you in public?" Ryo teased.
"Not at all."
"You're confusing me. But since there's no one here but us..." Hiroki shrieked when Ryo suddenly pushed him down on the couch and laid on top of him. "I can do whatever I want with you," he finished his sentence before kissing Hiroki passionately.
Hiroki's last thought before all coherence left his mind was, "The only thing that matters is you and me."
