Mostly I just love the lyrics.

I was listening (on Pandora) to Iron & Wine's "The Trapeze Swinger" this morning for the first time and was filled with the familiar melancholy I feel whenever I'm faced with a beautiful nostalgia to which I have no personal access. Isn't it unjust that we can't all be sad in just that way? So I listen to some ( Read more... )

Your Antonio is doing you a very valuable service. Old series or new series? I think his detached familiarity with cultural norms--as if he studied them instead of internalizing them--is more emphasized in the new series, but the old series (well, Three through Seven) gives him more opportunity for analysis, the workings of which are often very inexplicit.

For highlights of INTJ Who, I recommend "The Curse of Fenric" (Seven) and "The Ribos Operation" (Four). "The Runaway Bride" (Ten) I also can't help but recommend, if you haven't already seen it.

Antonio's method was actually to spend an evening grouping and ordering episodes from all the seasons that he has season into 5-9 episode blocks, each unified by a plot of thematic element.

He has explained that because the show is about time travel, it makes sense for the viewer to pick and choose. He has in effect taken on the role of a curatorial time tour guide through the Dr. Who universe.

Which is to say, he's an excellent friend.

I'm only about 3/4 of the way through the first block. It is about the Dahleks.

Are you watching the Dalek arc in chronological order, starting with "Genesis of the Daleks"? If so, you've seen one of my favorite episodes, "Destiny of the Daleks." I love playing rock-paper-scissors.

Seeing the Dalek stories in that order (and without intervening episodes) is immensely beneficial, since episodes like "Remembrance of the Daleks," where the Doctor sort of lets his companion explain everything and she leaves a lot out because she wasn't there during all the previous Dalek adventures, a lot funnier. Unfortunately, though, you'll miss a lot of important back story for "The Five Doctors."
