Fair enough. I used to share your opinion. For a long time after joining, I found Facebook so irritating I never looked at it.
I think it's improved recently. Now Facebook tries to adjust the News Feed so your most interesting friends are also the most visible (I'm pretty sure interest is measured based on how much you interact with them, and the overall level of attention they get). I also like that I can hide updates from applications, and individuals who post a constant stream of crap. By now, the annoyance is minimal and the entertainment value is decent, so I've started checking it as often as LJ.
Also, Facebook is a highly efficient means of taunting Monty.

I just use it for event invitations, mainly. It's also wonderful for finding accomodation interstate for free.
