I can fill a bookshelf with shelves arranged for paperbacks with 3 boxes of books. Even with a little space left for the rest of the Shakespeare books I know are coming and so on. I have one filled

I actually own 4 more, and they are in other rooms. ;-) I was just thinking about how to arrange the 4 ones that match that are in the living room. Actually, I guess I own 5.5 more, with 2 half-width ones and one low but long one.
Sounds like a vote for the 4 dark ones in the living room!
I cut out bits of the backs of things like this for electrical outlet plugs, too. Or you can buy a Flatplug and run it up over the top of the bookshelf.
More bookcases. It's expedient; what were you going to do with those leftover spaces but move everything around in a year to get in another bookcase anyway?
Well, I spent an hour or so moving bookcases so that the 4th one goes in against the wall -- I also discovered that the three made by the same manufacturer have the holes for the little shelf brackets in the same places when placed on a flat floor. This allowed me to fasten the shelving units together and make better use of the two earthquake brackets into the wall on the top of the shelves. (In their location at the other house, each case stood alone, and so had EQ brackets on the sides and on the top. I'm now working on getting the same stability with the new arrangement.
Since we've had two 4.5 temblors since I moved in, it seems prudent. (I know, 4.5 isn't really anything, but it does serve as a reminder ;-) )
