Blast and Darn.

And other expletives deleted. With a combination of doing a lot of bending over loading in and unloading the dishwasher, plus dealing with the litter boxes in an unfamiliar position, I have now thrown my back out of whack. I've taken a calcium-magnesium bolus and some aspirin, and am icing, but it's terribly frustrating not to be able to do the ( Read more... )

Argh. It's so much beyond "phoey!" I called and asked Jen to come and give the cat his shot, since if I get down to the floor I may not be able to get back up. I am so pissed. I hadn't expected to become a helpless old parent for at least 20 years.

It's transient; you're not old yet. Good idea to call Jen for the shot.

Well, I don't want to turn into her whiny mother demanding attention all the time. ;-)

When I can stand sraight, I'll go to the gym and ask for exercises to strengthen that part of my back.

Just a note - you can also take tylenol for pain relief. It won't interfere with the aspirin. (NSAIDS like Motrin and Aleve will, though.)

I'm much more of a heating pad kinda gal than an ice pack type, myself. :)

For the rest of the day, I switched to Excedrin Migraine, and relaxation exercises. Things are better today, but I'm still planning on babying it. I managed to get Drake shot up. I'm actually finding that alternating icing and relaxation exercises (imagining smothing the muscle fibers from a snarled mess into a smooth relaxed bundle) works pretty well. I'm likely to alternate heat and ice (which is what I usually do on the 2nd-3rd day).

Thanks for the hugs, y'all

Sympathies! I know back-pain - and yes it does make you feel twice your age, I hope you have just strained it and all will be well in a couple of days or so with rest. The ice-pack/heat-pack dilemma seems to be a personal thing, I favour getting mine under the shower hose as soon as it plays up, and alternating warm and cold water.

Please be careful how you bend (preferably from the knees)and no twisting and lifting at the same time!

Oh, it's clearly a strain rather than a spinal thing, as the Dr. & I have proved after a couple of Xrays after the last, worst episode. It's better today, so I'm going to be very gentle today.
