I was doing a search the other day and randomly ran across some info about a serial killer dubbed "The Doodler" or sometimes "The Black Doodler". Between January 1974 to September 1975 "The Doodler" was responsible for 17 attacks and on gay men in San Francisco resulting in 14 deaths ( Read more... )

Shame on those three. It may be one thing to not want to be outed. It is entirely another to risk the lives of other gay men.

Absolutely movie material as well. Though the Doodler doesn't have the same ring to it as Zodiac.

I moved to SF in '74 and remember some of the news reports. "Body found floating in the bay linked to gay bar" and such. Always in the papers, never on TV. I remember hearing a suspect had been arrested but nothing else about it. I had no idea about the rest of the story. Wow! I don't want to make excuses for the men that wouldn't come forward but back then saying you were gay was a huge deal. It hadn't even been legal very long. It was a very different time. Earlier crimes like that wouldn't even be investigated. No one cared about one more dead fag. But still one of the three should have been brave enough. It's sad that none of them were.

I remember nothing about this case. Of course, I was on the Other Side Of The Hill, so there were lots of things I didn't hear about.
