I was doing a search the other day and randomly ran across some info about a serial killer dubbed "The Doodler" or sometimes "The Black Doodler". Between January 1974 to September 1975 "The Doodler" was responsible for 17 attacks and on gay men in San Francisco resulting in 14 deaths ( Read more... )

Gee, apparently I just missed it, moving to SF in Feb. of '76. The sad part about this is that major news media of the day avoided any gay news like a plague. So, all you had was BAR and The Sentinel, both of which operated out of a small store front and didn't have much clout with the police.

Apparently AP grabbed ahold of it for a one time article, and maybe the Chronicle did a couple of stories. But the mainstream media attitude was: "No body cares about this, because it's Gay."

Contrast that to our radio show of today, and there's still people who call up and yell a station management: "I don't wanna hear news about f....ts!"

I wonder if the police ever prosecuted the killer(s)? I wonder who the entertainer was?
