Its great to find another person who acknowledges and regrets the blood on their nations hands, but retains their patriotism. I am Australian and a firm patriot, but I feel nothing but shame that the governments of the past/australian whites slaughtered indiginous Aboriginals, lynched Chinese, brought slaves from Papua New Guinea and bullied and killed Irish settlers (my heritage). With this shame though, is the pride of those in my nation who fought back, who worked for social justice and of the politicians with honourable morals who worked for social change. That is why I am still a patriot and why my room is adorned with the symbols of my nation. With the bad, comes those who worked to fix it. Its something truelly to be proud of.
