KEXP dj shakedown

What's going on at KEXP?

Amanda Wilde has been fired? Stevie Zoom no longer has the afternoon shift? I noticed that these two were not on the air recently, but I didn't know there was such a big shake down. Curious...

Graceland will open back up at the end of the month. They're doing a minor remodel.

that's good, maybe it won't feel so much like a firetrap after they make some changes

While I am mourning Stevie leaving, I'm not at all sad about Amanda getting the axe. My suspicions is that her health has played a reason to her leaving. She missed significant time last year, sometimes up to two weeks at a stretch. Kevin and Cheryl (le sigh.. I miss Matt) were the next two in line, even if it is a bit nepotistic that kevin is also the program manager. Small station, I guess everyone has to wear a couple of different hats.

Nearly 10 years without any change in dj at a station where the dj gets to pick the music ie near absolute controle, is quite a long time anyways. In with the new! I would have liked to seen Lisa Wood get the afternoon gig, but I know she is busy doing traffic reports.

Stevie Zoom was a favorite of mine, but I think everyone is ok/happy with Amanda getting replaced. It's amazing how static that station has been with the dj staff.

I would like to see someone other than Cheryl Waters have the afternoon show. She's better at night. I think they should move someone fresh in there.

I'm guessing that having cheryl move to the afternoon gets Rachel into the overnight slot. or, it opens the door for new overnight talent.

I liked Stevie Zoom, but I'm with you on Amanda Wilde being gone. I am ready for someone else in the afternoons.

I don't know! I can't imagine her actually being fired. But she just kinda disappeared.

maybe NPR gave her better benefits if she went full-time, or perhaps her contract was up....or just mayyybeeeee her and Paul Allen had an affair and his wife found out.....OH ALL THE POSSIBILITIES....!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

kexp ... so sad anonymous January 22 2005, 00:15:57 UTC
it's sad when a great station like KCMU gets "bought" and bloats it's own version of Carson Daly as John Richards and claims they are commercial free when they are always promoting Starbucks or Rhino releases ... losers. they are The End.

a little bitter? patrick January 22 2005, 03:47:29 UTC
now, i never listened to the station when it was KCMU because I grew up in Issaquah which is the one place in the eastside that doesn't get 90.3 clearly, but I'm not sure how you can be so bitter about it. KEXP is one of the best things about seattle.

Is the underwriting on KEXP that bad? No, I don't think so. I've listened to nonprofit radio stations that are much worse. Surf the internet and listen to some radio stations there.

yeah - i guess i was bitter. i was bummed that stevie and mamanda are no longer on the staion but here i am at home listening to KEXP right now. it is one of the best stations going. but ... they are getting somewhat commercial even if it his hidden in their play lists and it's still a little sad that they are no longer the local/seattlestaion they once were - but now a world wide alterna-force. oh well - times are changing and i guess i should get used to it. thanks.
