Honestly, I want to say I watched this episode but I had to watch the repeat because of family dinner things and I fell asleep in the middle. At the point that my brain gave up, I think River's did too. I might watch it at some point but really...why bother?

I can't remember if there was any Christmas references besides the Christmas carol songs in the beginning.

At the end the hostess said their next available opening was on Christmas in 4 years' time, but that was it.

even though River can regenerate

IIRC, she can't - it was established in Let's Kill Hitler that she used up all her regenerations in one go to save the Doctor's life.

Also - the whole "River catches diamond with her shirt" thing. Really???

that's when 5 people face-palmed at the same time, because -really????
I agree though, it could have been more focused, and River holding the idiot ball went on for too long.

I did not watch this episode, so you can imagine the mindfuck that was this sentence for me:

The two land on a swanky ship and speak to a maitre'd about his children eating their mother, but the maitre'd becomes suspicious when the Doctor says his gastrointestinal tract speaks because that's just weird.

lol I'm guessing the second bit was the Doctor's terrible lie about the talking head he's keeping hidden, but the first part comes out of nowhere too.

I did see the ending and it's further proof that Moffat doesn't ever remember what he wrote 5 minutes ago. That does not flow with Silence in the Library at all!
