21 Chapter 22: "Please Don't"- Saturday, April 1st, 2017
After punching Josh, Olivia spared a glance at Natalia. Those eyes. Brown, full of love and warm. Those eyes. She fell into them for a minute, travelling to a moment of happiness.
A very pregnant Natalia sat at the kitchen table, clipping out coupons. Emma sat next to her, working on her social studies homework. Olivia was at the stove stirring a pot of chili. She came back over and sat between two of her favorite girls, kissing Emma on her forehead before taking her lover's hand.
"Mommy, what does resilient mean?"
Olivia thought for a moment and then spoke. "Well, Bean, it means that it gets through anything. That no matter what, it's tough and steadfast."
Biting her lip in thought, Emma realized, "Oh...then the pioneers were like us then."
"How so Emma?" Olivia asked, cocking her head to the side.
"Well..." Emma looked between her two mommies. "We stick together. We're a family. No matter what life throws at us, we get through it. As long as we're tough and love each other."
"Oh Emma..." Natalia murmured, tears filling her eyes.
"Isn't that right?" Emma asked confused.
Olivia squeezed Natalia's hand tightly. "It's right, Baby. It's perfect." Olivia smiled falling into those eyes.
Those eyes.
Back in the present, those eyes were no longer filled with tears of happiness, but rather they were full of fear and confusion. Those wide eyes had lied to her, betrayed her.
It was too much to take.
I can't let her see me weak. I need to get out of here. Olivia looked away and quickly made her way out into the night.
***
Natalia didn't understand what was happening. Why did Olivia punch Josh? Why was she so mad? How can I make this better?
Grabbing her purse, Natalia knew there was only one way to find the answers she needed. Her.
She glanced over to Josh on the floor. "I'm sorry. I have to talk to her."
***
"Olivia, wait!" the voice behind her called out. "Please, stop!"
"Go away, Natalia, " Olivia said as she briskly walked away, rain beginning to fall from the night sky.
"Olivia, " Natalia said, grabbing Olivia's arm. "We need to talk."
Olivia spun around, her eyes wild and angry. She barked out a laugh. "Oh now you wanna fucking talk. This is too perfect. Only that I've been trying to get you to talk to me for months now. Well, now it's too damn late for that."
Natalia shook her head as she looked up into her wife's eyes. "Please, " she whispered. "What's wrong?"
"What's wrong?!" Olivia shouted, incredulously. My god, she is still trying to pull one over me. I may be slow, but I'm not a moron. "Enough talking."
Olivia pushed Natalia against the side of the building, trapping her body against the brick. She yanked Natalia's hair and pulled her into a crushing kiss. Fastly and furiously, Olivia plunged her tongue into Natalia's mouth, over and over. She bit down hard enough on Natalia's bottom lip to cause the younger women to yelp out in pleasurable pain. "Was it worth it?" Olivia whispered as they broke apart, panting against Natalia's neck, her eyes still closed.
"Olivia."
"No tell me right now. I deserve to know. Was it worth it to ruin our marriage to fuck him?"
"Fuck who? What?"
Olivia stepped back and pointed her finger at Natalia. "Don't play innocent with me! Josh. Was he worth sleeping with, Natalia?"
"I didn't sleep with him."
Olivia scoffed, "Yeah, and I'm the damn Pope. You must think I'm stupid. I found the receipt with the pregnancy test."
"Pregnancy test?! I have no idea what you're talking about."
Tears welled up in Olivia's eyes. "Okay, you still can't be honest with me. Whatever. The point is I'm done. I'm not going to stick around to be your damn lap dog, coming on command."
"I didn't sleep with anyone besides you! And, I'm not pregnant!" Natalia fired back, tears of frustration and sadness shining in her eyes.
"Liar! And, to top it all off it had to be him. Why him, Natalia? Why not just sleep with anyone in town. Why not Matt or Doris or damnit...even Frank again? You might as well have fucked half the damn town like the whore you are!!!" Olivia screamed, only a few inches away from Natalia's face.
The light sprinkling of rain grew harder and harder until it pounded against the pavement, against their heated bodies, hiding their tears, their terrors. Nothing but their labored breathes and the pelting of the rain could be heard.
Until...
Olivia's phone rang. It was home.
