At the beginning of the year, I signed up to write for the 3six5 blog, a blog with a new author for every day of 2010. I picked Oct. 13 because it was the 25th anniversary of the first collisions in the Tevatron, and I thought I could write about that. But something else came up.

Last week the Large Hadron Collider at CERN in Switzerland circulated its first particle beam. It happened between 2 and 4 a.m. after my second day of work at Fermilab. And we had a pajama party.
That's just how Fermilab is. I knew when I first drove onto the property - almost 7,000 acres of mostly prairie - and passed an actual herd of buffalo

Today I finally met up with my friends Erin and Matt from Peace Corps for lunch in Chinatown. It was so familiar -- having to ask the hostess three times what she meant when we asked how long the wait was, hanging out with the two of them, trying to decipher a bill written in a foriegn script at the end of the meal
