I'm part of a book club through an old job of mine, and I just got done reading A Sand County Almanac by Aldo Leopold. Now, nature writing is a tricky thing. I always want to love it, and so often I don't. Walden, for example--cant' stand it. Leaves of Grass? Want to love it, but can't get through it no matter how hard I try. We had a lovely book club meeting on Thursday and I shared your blog post with the group. Not quite the same as having the real thing right next to us, but pretty satisfying nonetheless.

I'm a few pages from finishing the book and have so enjoyed the third and last section -- on conservation ethics -- that I've been reading each page slowly and deliberately. It doesn't get much better than that, at least for a non-fiction, philosophy nerd.

As for suggested nature writing that isn't just quote-alicious, I think you already know my suggestion, but I'll share it anyway: Edward Abbey! Start with Desert Solitaire. Aaaaahh.
