The gym and gender

I 'm well into my seventh month of ful time life, an expression that sounds rather odd to me at this point as it's no longer an experience or a test or even a transition per se - it's just who I am ( Read more... )

Granted, I may be biased, but generally speaking I think the majority of people, and women in particular, are so wrapped up in their own insecurity and worry about changing at the gym that they pretty much don't notice anyone else there. Of course there are always exceptions. And I totally get that that's not exactly what you're asking. My thinking is that most people wouldn't think twice, or care. However, there's always that ONE person who may, and who may say something. It's my partner's fear when going to the gym as well, and has kept him from getting a membership ( ... )

Why don't you just leave your gym bag in your car, and carry your gym shoes and put them on at the door? That's my idea, and I am a cis-woman...and I say this not for their comfort, but for yours. As a cis-woman myself, it wouldn't bother me...not a bit. And my partner, who is MtF, suggested you simply talk to the management and explain to them why you feel uncomfortable, and ask permission to change somewhere else.

Definitely also ask in mtf, transgender, and trans_m_arts, if you haven't already.

I dunno; I really wouldn't care for myself at all, but then I'm not at all fussed about bodies, and don't for the most part care who sees *me* naked (or who I see), except insofar as I don't want offend people.

My sweetie is dealing with a similar thing at the gym, though (he's ftm); he dosen't really use the locker rooms at all, right now, but that means he has to go home after because he can't shower there. That gym has a few single person dressing rooms that cost a fee to use; does yours have anything similar? His gym is supposed to have a policy where trans folk can use them for free...
