Good news is *good news*

I heard a lot of comments today about how stupid it was to have the Royal baby on the news. The most common comment was "Who cares, this doesn't affect my life." My question is this: How much of the news really affects our lives. Most news is presented only to evoke emotions -- usually of sadness, fear or outrage. I agree...it's nice to get good news once in a while. And I'd much rather hear about the royal baby than the Kardashian baby.

And yet these same people have 8 zillion facebook friends and share everything. They're just jealous of George. Also William and Kate.

I'm not sure as I haven't been paying all that much attention, but I got the idea that it wasn't that it wasn't news but that it wasn't the ONLY news.
