Why is it that I keep encountering advertisements for the movie Horton Hears a Who? I've seen online ads, I've seen it in the paper, I've seen posters, I even inexplicably received an e-mail from 20th Century Fox telling all about Horton Hears a WhoAm I in the movie's target demographic? If only it was called Tim Horton Hears a Who. Then I'd be fine. I'd just be fantasizing about vanilla dip donuts and icecaps.

They did the same thing here when The Cat in The Hat came out. It was marketed predominantly at 18-25 year olds. Me and most of my friends eventually went to see it, and found it unsettling and creepy (though none of us know why), so none of us want to see Horton.

Now if only the marketers would realize that and go away.

So I'm NOT going crazy then? Wow. That's bizarre that they're marketing to this age group. Do kids today not get Dr Seuss books read to them anymore?

My nephew LOVES them. He's seven, and has been obsessed with Dr Seuss since he was a toddler. But the movies even creep him out. Something about the books doesn’t seem to translate to film.

Maybe they think Dr Seuss has a "retro" appeal? The fashion here is currently straight out of the 80s, and the shops have been flooded with Rainbow Bright and Care Bear t-shirts. Even the music is starting to get an 80s feel to it.
I get the feeling that they’re trying to sell us our childhood back.
