Life in the Birdhouse

Just trying to do a little catchup here...a recent photo of Will, our only bird and one that we call "Budgie Survivor" because he has outlived all the other birds. He's still wild. Despite my attempts to tame him and stick train him, he just will not be tamed ;-D I think if he had a tame helper budgie to show him how to budgie, it might make a ( Read more... )

Sometimes you just gotta let a bird bird in its own way. I have an Amazon who is very territorial about his cage. He'll let me give him head scritch through the bars of his cage. In fact he solicits preening. But if I were to open the cage door and stick my hand in there to give him a scritch, he'd bite my hand and hang on. I don't know what happened in his previous lives, but it must have been horrific for him, because my other birds are not territorial.

Awww! Yeah, rehomed birds carry so many hidden baggage. I don't know if you follow Pepper and Pals, but the gal has a third-hand Jenday conure named Queso. His first home must have been very good, but the second one not so good. It took a year for him to cuddle on her neck and he was one very angry Cheese Man, aw!

Respecting a bird's boundaries is always the best thing to do. Will is so happy listening to disco hits and learning some fancy moves from the house sparrows. I can't remember if I mentioned I moved the budgie cage downstairs last year. He has lots to entertain himself with :-) Even a wild budgie can still be a great part of the family.
