The last time I posted it was to tell you guys about Dizzy's little heart; I am ecstatic to report to you all that after two weeks on antibiotics, the heart arrhythmia is TOTALLY GONE.  The vet said she'd never seen anything like it - going on the meds was a long shot, but Dizzy's heart sounds completely regular now.  My little bean is completely ( Read more... )

My birds generally like to take part in whatever I am doing, so if you have to assemble the cage and decorate it, it may behoove you to let her "help", even if it takes you longer to do it that way. From her perspective, it may look like you're playing with this new cage, and she may think that if YOU are doing it, it MUST be fun. Once she's climbed all over it and inspected the arrangement of her toys inside, your battle getting her in there is mostly done.

That's a great idea! I have definitely noticed that Diz likes to feel included - and poke her beak into everything, of course.

And thank you, cyaneus!

i tend to move my birds around a lot and switch up their cages semi-frequently. Normally I just move their toys & perches to their new cage, make it all nice and pretty and then just put the bird in. Green cheeks are pretty bold birds so I don't think Bean will have any trouble adjusting. If anything, he'll enjoy exploring his new environment!

Kappa (dusky conure) requires frequent cage rearrangements - if I don't do it frequently enough, she becomes ridiculously loud and annoying. She calms down right after I rearrange things. If Dizzy has anything in common with Kappa, she'll settle right in to explore the new changes. :)

Dizzy has her toys rotated at least once a week; but she also is typically very suspicious of any new toys. She won't really go near them until she's seen me handling them; they MIGHT eat her, after all. ^^ I"m hoping that if the toys are familiar (for the time being, until I get new ones for the bigger space that I'm so excited for her to have) the cage itself won't be an OMG NEW THING for her.
