I really don't get the whole 'us vs them''anti-this or that' mentality. I may get annoyed with storylines or characters every now and then, but... it's just a tv show. Those people who work themselves into righteous rages about perceived slights to the characters worry me.

I know what you mean. It is slightly scary in that some people seem to forget that these are fictional characters we are talking about. .. That and the characters are NOT proxies for the viewers or some such thing.

Aie, yes, the ancient (as in old) battles between certain fans (not really groups, but just a handful of fans who don't seem to have a life) is monotonous. What's scary is these fans can't let go of SG either, so now that SG1 is toast, they're migrating over to SGA. Yech.

I know. When SG-1 was canceled this was a concern of mine. I wondered at the time if it was a bad thing that I wanted SG-1 to stay on the air to keep some of the more extreme elements of that fandom from coming over to Atlantis - which is far from prefect, but has yet to reach the level of venom in the SG-1 battles. Or if it has, I have managed to stay clear of it.

There was one comments page on JM's blog where some fan decided to applaud JM for going after a fan group (which of course, he didn't cuz why would he even care to?) and then it basically turned into a bloodbath on that paritcular day. And alas, some of the more obsessive SG1 fans are coming over to SGA, cuz they're just obsessed with Stargate, period. Sigh.

This has been happening since Star Trek.

True. There is always going to a group of fans that take things to far.
