The one other thing I would add to the list would be including pictures. Always have a splash-page to catch people's attention - a big, bold, bright picture. "A picture is worth a thousand words" - given that the advice is to keep blog entries succinct, pictures go a long way where words get left out. I hate that blog entries are advised to stay at 250 words or less, btw - it's like no one has an attention span anymore.

PS - I sent you an email message re: design work, in case you haven't seen it yet. I'd love to work with you to create an identity for your baked goods! :-)
