Considering how little she had to do with the plots of the previous parts, I'm surprised to see Buffy in this section.

Surprised, but not at all disappointed. This is definitely an interesting take on how Buffy would be involved in Xander's relationship with a demon, were that demon not quite so kosher as Anya.

Well, Buffy really doesn't have many other options. She can't just let Not run around killing people in her town.

Yay, Buffy! You write an interesting Buffy. She seems very isolated without her Scooby anchor.

"She isn't even a person, Xander. You're in love with Willow's clothes."
I don't even know what to say to this, but found it very amusing.

At this point, it seems clear that this story is in for a sad end, but I will enjoy it as it spirals to that dark conclusion. OR DEFIES MY EXPECTATIONS. Feel free to do that, too.

We shall see.

Oh yes, my pretties, we shall see.

Okay, having not read anything of yours from Buffy's perspective? You have her voice down. Perfectly, with both the love and the underlying stresses with Xander.

Thanks. Much appreciated, especially since I love your Buffy voice.

I'm sensing a strong parallel between Not Willow in this story and Anya in Selfless. Selfless gave Anya a way out; I wonder if we can similarly avert tragedy here?

Well, Buffy has pretty much already given them a way out by ordering them to leave. Which was nice of her, since she really should have gotten with the dicing and slicing right away, but she's been in Xander's shoes too recently to do that.

Hmmm. That's about how that conversation would go, probably. I like this Buffy - I think you've done a good job of catching her in the transition period between functional, likeable human being and the Buffy of later seasons who'd been traumatized to the point that all her best character traits had disappeared. The trauma may be happening a little earlier and for different reasons, but this is pretty much what I imagine was going through Buffy's mind when she really started to come unstuck in the later seasons.

Liked the 'You're in love with Willow's clothes' line too - of course Xander's really in love with a cheap copy of Willow's personality, but Buffy clearly understands Xander's basic motivation.

I think that Xander's come to appreciate Not Willow for herself, as well.
