My history with the new Star Trek movie is this: my mother started twitching as soon as the promos came out, so I assumed it was a lost cause, and when she brought it up I assured her I had no desire to see it. And then it came out, and everyone loved it and it was getting terribly good reviews. So I started wearing her down.

( and then yesterday she caved and we went! reactions below. )

no mqp puns are forthcoming, real life what?, movies, redshirt genocide ahoy!!!, i don't know what this is, i totally win at life, attempts to clothe myself intelligently, ... huh, facepalm to the power of infinity, my family is awesome, my dragons they are adorable, i've got 90000 pounds in my pajamas, college! :o!!!, !!!!!!!!!!!!!, health (or lack thereof)

Yeah, I forgot to mention that after we got home I pretty much mainlined all the Kirk/McCoy I could find. Um.

♥ Yeah, we were sitting there, and as I realized that it was going to be Kirk, Sulu, and Crewman We Just Met A Moment Ago Who Is Also Wearing Red (Fancy That!) going down to the platform, I turned to my mom and went "... yeah, he's gonna die."

And then he did! Painfully! At least we were expecting it though.
