Brainstorming/Poll

Okay, not-so-random question for everyone: You have a friend who is having a horrible day/week/whatever and they are pretty depressed. What suggestions would you give for creative ways to cheer them up?

randomness, life

I was think a real life friend, but I guess you could go with suggestions for an internet friend too. I didn't specify.

I know you didn't. That's why I asked. =)

Internet friends can be directed to BadHaiku.com or ILoveEgg.

Real life friends usually need to get out of the house. A latte or some bubble tea and a walk around the park can do wonders.

Take them to Wine Styles tonight for the wine tasting. Ply them with alcohol, cheese, and good company.

I think WineStyles got rained out tonight. If it hadn't been pouring, I probably would have gone. Free wine and snacks are definite mood enhancers.

You could also take your friend to Messina Hof for the $5 tour and wine tasting. The property is beautiful and the wines are OK. If you all are hungry, the Texas meat and cheese plate (on the appetizer menu) at the restaurant is fantastic and more than enough to share.

Their meat & cheese plate is really good.

You know just about any random non-requested good gesture will help. Send them something silly in the mail or buy them a silly present "just because." Doesn't have to be expensive, just silly.

Meatspace??? LOL!

Silly gifts are awesome, especially if it is something along their interests or quirks. Thanks for the suggestion! ^_^

Take them out for ice cream, because ice cream makes everything better. Hire one of those singing telegram people. Have a silly string war. Plan large group outings or a movie night. Go to Huddle House at 2 am and load up on obscene amounts of carbs.

I agree that ice cream makes everything better. We have a Cold Stone Creamery here and that would definitely be a great place to take someone to cheer them up.

What's Huddle House?

Thanks, great suggestions!

mmm, Cold Stone...

Maybe Huddle House is an Alabama thing. It's a chain of greasy 24 hour diners, but they have the best food selection ever. You can get pancakes and sweet potato fries and bacon and cheesecake no matter what time of day! It's similar to Waffle House, but better.

Okay, so it's like IHop & Denny's. Definite fun for late night chat session.

If it's someone online, a trip over to www.mycathatesyou.com will cheer anyone up.

If it's a friend IRL, either therapeutic shopping or a good glass of wine and a sympathetic ear for his/her rant is just the thing.

LOL I love mycathatesyou.com I should probably submit some pics of our kitten to that site. She seriously hates me and some of her pics show it.

What exactly is therapeutic shopping? Wine and chatting does hit the spot many times.

It's shopping for fun-- not because you need anything, but because, say, that new pair of shoes is cute and you want them. Doesn't work for everyone. :O)

Yeah, that would likely drive me nuts. I'm not that keen of shopping, and I get nervous in malls (especially near the holidays when people are crazy). Plus, I get really annoyed when I'm stores while finances are tight because I shouldn't be buying anything. Most people probably aren't as weird as I am, though. ^_^
