Brainstorming Time!

Okay, what are some creative ways to be social or have fun without spending a lot of money?

The list so far:

  • Game nights: Invite people over for board/card games and snacks. This would just cost a bag or two of chips and some pop...plus it's an excuse for me to buy Settlers of Catan.
  • Puppy playtime: Either take Dar to one of my friends with dog( ( Read more... )

Have a small book club. The book should be something readily available at the library, and each month, everyone in the group brings a snack (so plenty of food and not much $$$ spent).

Great idea. I'm not sure if I'd have time to read a book every month at the rate I'm going, but it's worth a shot.

Similar to the book club idea is:
- Movie club, watch new movies and everyone bring snacks.
- Dinner club, trade homes every month/week and the host makes the main dish and everyone else brings sides.
- Crafting days. Everyone gets together to craft on a weekend afternoon, and just light snacks for food.
- And of course my favorite is just having friends over for TV night, a group of friends that all like the same show.

All of these can be traded around a group of friends houses, so that one person/family pays more one week/month (whatever the time frame), but next time someone else pays more, etc, etc. I'm sure I can come up with more, but those are few things I've done. Obviously being social and saving money means staying "in" rather than going out.

Movie & TV nights is a great idea, but we're not set up for it at my house since the TV is in the master bedroom and the only place to sit to watch the TV is on the bed. We just haven't been able to justify getting a second TV and it wouldn't be convenient to move it to the livingroom since we watch movies late at night in bed.

Dinner club would be nice, except that I can't cook much...but I could do pasta! I'm also not into crafts and don't know many people here who are...at least not my age.

Yeah, and I prefer to stay in anyway. Going out usually means going to a bar and I hate being around cig smoke. Plus, I'm not a fan of movie theaters or shopping, so that doesn't leave much out and about.

I'm up for a game night, with some advance warning and a lot of Benedryl. :D

Great!

Yeah, my house is more of a zoo than cheez_ball's, so Benedryl will be a must.
