It wasn't as though anyone could blame Shera for worrying, as the habit had come with good reason. Hell, one of them had to take these things into consideration, and since Cid Highwind often neglected to do so, the weight fell heavily on Shera's shoulders. It could be said that the man was fearless, though out of bravery or stupidity, it was hard to say. Most of the time, he let his temper do the talking for him and there was virtually nothing that Cid would back down from ( ... )

"What have I said about smoking in the kitchen," Shera sighed with a halfhearted and somewhat fond little frown. (How a frown could be fond was far beyond her, but it was something Cid had helped her perfect over the years.) She poured the tea into a mug (because mugs made him feel more secure in his masculinity than her dainty, hand-painted china teacups) even as she chided him, then brought the steaming cup carefully closer. Once she was standing just beside Cid, she smiled and did not immediately offer the tea to her husband and instead stood there expectantly ( ... )

A fond frown was probably all too common with Cid, as his habits were ones you simply got used to over the years. Really, though they weren't the most pleasant of habits, without them he really wouldn't be Cid Highwind ( ... )

"As tempting as that sounds," Shera laughed, placing the mug into his hands, "I think I'll give my hard-working captain a break." She pulled up a seat next to him and settled herself down, scooting right up next to him because having time to themselves was becoming increasingly scarce. There was always work to be done, and tension was mounting over the recent slew of rumors and the like. Not to mention they weren't civilians anymore. To an extent, Shera was, but the crew and the ship were part of Cid's business, and somehow over the years, Cid's business had become saving the world. If what was happening now did become the fourth major crisis their world was faced with in the last five years, Shera couldn't help but think to herself that this all felt distressingly like they were only delaying the inevitable ( ... )

"A break? About damn time, too," he grunted, accepting his tea and putting out the cigarette butt in the nearby ashtray. He hated to admit it, but Shera was right about that. There was always something to do, and ever since that damn Cloud came around stealing his Tiny Bronco, Cid always found himself toe to toe with the front line ( ... )

"There is a wounded acquaintance of Cloud Strife's south of your present location, in the Gongaga area. It is of dire importance that you collect him and bring him to Midgar."

Blinking, Cid squinted at the computer. Acquaintance of Cloud? What the hell was he, a damn babysitter? Cid's ship wasn't some kind of taxi, used to fly people around and their leisure. Damnit, he had work to do ( ... )
