Who: Cain Knightlord and Abel Nightroad What: Discussin' neck nommings and Crusnik When: Just after Alucard and Crusnik went batshit together Where: Abel's room - Satis Tower Rating: Uhh... PG-15?
He felt as if this were yet another failure to add to the growing list. Cain's expression cut right through him; he had no idea what to do, but he desperately wanted to soothe his brother's pain even as he knew he was the very cause of it. He could've... killed him
( ... )
He wanted to make it right between them, to heal both of their pain and soothe away this seemingly endless cycle of secrets that came from the difference in time... but how could he when he still didn't understand himself truly what Crusnik was, or how it had destroyed his whole family?
Silent as Abel finished tending to his wounds, aware of the pain of his own stitches as he watched the needle move in and out of pale flesh.
This was... all so wrong.
"Don't--"
He cut Abel off as he began to apologise, not wanting to hear words of guilt or remorse. If he let Abel apologise, then it meant he had done something wrong... something... he didn't want to contemplate. It was easier for his sanity to believe--
Abel seemed to immediately realize what his brother were thinking. A brief look of surprise -- and then strangled guilt marred his face before his hands stretched to Cain's shoulders, turning him toward him and looking at him with brow twisted.
"He's-- just fine. And he wouldn't have... killed you. He's..."
Neither of them are killers... today.
"...I'm so sorry, Cain." He truly frightened you. It was undeniable... the way Cain was looking at him now made him want to rip his own heart out. After all he'd said about bringing them together... about them still being one -- could he possibly see why Abel had been hesitant to burden Cain with this piece? He could see, now... the weight was suffocating his brother, and it was a far stretch from how he'd ever wanted his doppelgänger to realize what the monster truly was.
"I lost... control, seeing..."
...That... he carefully would not think on too deeply again, even as his eyes flickered to bandages wrapped around pale flesh at Cain's throat.
For some reason it made Cain feel a little better to hear those words. As though knowing that it had been the strength of emotion at seeing his brother in distress, that had pushed him to his actions. Twisted, he knew, and not something he would want to share -- but it was a affirmation that he did still mean something to Abel.
The guilt on his brother's face was suffocating, adding to the confusion and mess that was his own head at the moment. He wished that hadn't happened, that he had never seen the thing he was destined to become.
Abel hadn't killed Alucard. But Cain was predestined to kill Lilith with the same power.
"...th--"
He took a deep breath, fingers slowly coming up to touch the bandages over Abel's chest, voice lowering to barely more than a murmur.
His heart is breaking to hear Cain's voice so small and lost; he barely feels his fingers touching him beyond the numb realization that Abel's loss of control had come at even greater a cost than he'd originally thought. His arms stretched, quick to draw him in a tight hug despite his previous fears of marring his brother with tainted blood.
"You're--"
...He wants to say he'll protect him... that it won't happen -- doesn't have to. But he can't... can he? The fact there here right now proves that. His mouth clicks shut... and all he can do is offer his brother the solidity of his arms.
