The Doctor liked to take his time and this day was no different. Walking the sunlit halls of Paradisa, the Doctor smiled easily, his rainbow umbrella settled on his shoulder and a small box in hand containing what was left of the cake. Usually he was not one to share his sweets but the Doctor loved people who loved cake. Besides, he was very bored.
So far, the castle was proving utterly fascinating and completely annoying at the same time. The people in it were either brilliant or legally in need of mental assistance. There was no middle ground. Lucy seemed to fall towards the interesting side of things and, really, anyone who married the Master had to be very odd.
With a polite knock, the Doctor waited outside of Lucy's room, glancing curiously back and forth down the hallways.
Lucy was just turning off the bathroom light when the knock came, and since she rarely got visitors, she was barely able to stop "Just a moment" from attempting to come out of her mouth. That, in turn, produced a despondent sigh. It seemed she would never get used to the loss of her voice. Maybe it was a good thing she rarely got visitors.
Moment of self-pity finished, Lucy straightened her shoulders and went to open the door. She was entirely unprepared for the assault of primary colors that greeted her--and she'd thought the fifth's cricket ensemble was odd at first!--but like any well brought-up society girl, Lucy was able to mask her surprise and give the new Doctor her most winning smile in greeting.
The Doctor was pleasantly surprised by Lucy's appearance. Although he was giving her a chance to prove she was more than just the Master's wife, he had been expecting something a bit...off. Instead, she looked like a young, attractive, social woman. Even better, he wasn't greeted by a comment about his jacket. Then again, he wasn't greeted by a comment at all.
Smiling brightly in return, the Doctor paused to shut and lock his umbrella before stepping inside. "You have a lovely room, Lucy dear," he said for conversation, then once again caught himself and said, "Ah but I suppose we'll have to make a mental connection first before we can enjoy ourselves. You'll forgive me if I don't wish to dwell inside your mind after establishing it. It isn't personal, merely that mental business has never been my strong suit." The Doctor gave another charming smile and set the cake on the table.
Lucy was still smiling as she shut the door, amusement coloring it as she gave him a more thorough once-over--good God, that outfit was positively eye-watering--though it dimmed slightly at the mention of not dwelling inside her mind. It brought back memories of what she'd seen and experienced with her Doctor at their own first meeting, and for a moment she felt freezingly cold inside.
With an effort, she shut that avenue of thought down and clasped her hands behind her back to hide the trembling that had run through them. Then she nodded at him and raised her chin slightly, as if to say, "Well go on, then."
