Who: Lana Lang feather_frost , Uchiha Itachi youlackhate What: Mourning When: Last night. 3am? or something. Where: Music room Rating: E for Emo PG-13 or something
Lana didn't even notice that anyone had entered the room. She was in her own little world that consisted of a strange vortex of pain, grief, shame, confusion, all sorts of negativity just swirling around her. That in addition to it being a time of the night/morning that no sane people were awake for... she wasn't really watching for people.
After several minutes of crying Lana finally began to concentrate on stopping. Stop. You're being a child. she told herself. Pull yourself together. With her eyes closed she finally sat up and began taking a few deep, measured breathes, trying to calm her post-sobbing fit hiccups and to clear her mind a little bit. It's okay. You'll be okay. It just hurts. It'll get better, it will. You'll be okay. Calm down. You have responsibilities here. You need to have a clear head. You'll be okay. She repeated things like that to herself over and over in her mind to calm herself down, taking calming breaths. She'd be okay. She really would
( ... )
Lana began to smile softly as he played. Gotcha. Either he had an unbelievable memory or there was some strange supernatural ability in play. More than likely the latter since it would be a supernatural memory to be able to pick up that piece.
When he spoke to her she smiled, trying to appear less smug than she felt at figuring out what was going on... or at least partially. She nodded, "Yes, it's very complicated. It's called Impromptu Op. 90 no. 2 by Franz Schubert."
She paused and her grin tugged ever so slightly more at the corner of her mouth, "Would you like me to teach you how to play it properly?"
Itachi blinked, slightly surprised. So she had figured it out. He gave her another amused 'hnn,' the corners of his mouth turned upwards in what most likely looked like a somewhat evil smile. "Impressive," he said, moving over slightly. He glanced back down at the black and white keys after her question, before glancing back. This silent name-guessing game had been an easier game than he had previously thought. Judging from her tone of voice, her level of intellect, her interest in music, and her choice of words ... "You already have ..." A pause. "Lana."
Lana's smile only wavered slightly when he said her name. Creepy much? Stalker much? I think so. She remained calm though. Chances were he was TRYING to freak her out a little and why would she give him...or anyone for that matter... that sort of satisfaction? She could think of no good reason so she chose to keep her freaked-outery to herself.
Lana raised her brows and smirked softly, "I meant the song."
"Ah ..." he blinked, smile fading into a look of faint confusion. "That wasn't the right way?" He glanced back at the keys. She must have changed it to test whether or not he was just copying her. "So that's how you figured it out."
... And for all his talk on ettiquette in name-giving, he had certainly messed that one up this time. His Uchiha-taught politeness took over, demanding that he properly introduce himself. He stuck out a hand in her direction, intended for a handshake. "Itachi," he said, nodding. "We've spoken before."
Lana smirked softly at him and tilted her head. "Had to figure it out somehow, didn't I?" she asked with a soft chuckle.
Lana was surprised to see him put out his hand and was even more surprised to hear him say his name. Itachi. Didn't Yachiru call him 'ferret'? She looked at his hand in slight surprise before putting her smaller hand in it and shaking it, hesitantly at first but then firmly as she got over her surprise.
She gave him a genuine smile. Oddly enough, he'd made her feel a good deal better. It had been a good distraction. Enough 'wtfing' and one's bound to temporarily forget their troubles. "It's nice to meet you Itachi," she said genuinely.
He nodded in response, pulling his hand away. She seemed to be smiling now; which was a great deal better than crying, obviously. Though her troubles honestly did not concern him, people were a lot less trouble to deal with when in a pleasant mood. "You'll forgive me for being rude," he said, giving her a once-over with Sharingan.
Turning back to the piano, he pushed the seat back and stood up again, gesturing toards the seat. "You were going to play the song correctly this time?" It bothered him when things weren't done as they were supposed to. Especially things like this, things that actually required skill.
Lana nodded in response to his apology and replied with a quiet, "It's alright. It was my fault for moping around in a public area." She laughed softly.
When he vacated the bench she slid onto it and without a word went back into playing the song... correctly this time. It wasn't terribly different, she'd arranged the variations fairly subtly. It hadn't been terribly hard to do so. Lana had been playing the piano for a very long time and she knew that song like the back of her eyelids.
When she'd finished the song she took her hands off of the keys and stood. She smiled at Itachi again. "There you are," she said. "It was nice meeting you Itachi but I think it's time I give sleep a shot. Have a good ni...morning."
And with that Lana turned and walked toward the door. When she reached it she paused and looked back, "If you'd ever like to learn to read sheet music I'd be happy to teach you."
