While Kaylee was down in the kitchen making lunch, Drizzt went about straightening up their living quarters. The first thing he did was look around for any stray pieces of armor that may have escaped being put away. Finding none, he reluctantly turned his attention to his scimitars and carried them to the wardrobe. For more than half a century, his swords had been readily within his reach, in times of peace and especially in times of trouble. Kaylee's warnings had convinced him of the possibility of trouble and while he understood why they needed to be hidden away, his warrior instincts cried out in protest. Still, he had no wish to hurt Jayne and if the man complied with Kaylee's request not to bring his guns along to lunch, Drizzt believed that his own weapons would not be necessary ( ... )

Jayne had actually set his alarm for this. Now, coming from most people, that would be a good sign. It would show they cared enough to be on time and that they wanted to make a good impression. Not so, with Jayne. In fact, him not showing up would likely be the best possible scenario ( ... )

Kaylee looked around the straightened up room as she pushed the cart closer to the table and started unloading things. He'd done a good job and she was pleased to notice he had actually hidden his scimitars.

"Nah, I got this Drizzt. Thanks," she said as she continued to set up the table. "Room looks real nice ... an' so do you! Clothes look good on ya." A bit more fussing and she had things mostly set up on the table. She pushed the cart over against one wall, opting to leave the container of brownies on it for now. Those were for after lunch anyway and besides, if she set them on the table Jayne'd go and eat them all first!

She paused to admire her table setting a bit. All that food and she had cooked every last scrap of it herself. Hopefully the guys liked it.

"Now all's we need is Jayne."

Drizzt watched Kaylee set the table, wishing there was more he could do. He knew she was nervous about the meeting with Jayne, and in truth, he was not as confident as he tried to be. The last thing he wanted was to be a source of contention between Kaylee and her friends.

Once she had finished, Drizzt stepped closer to her and put his arm around her shoulders in a comforting hug.

"The food looks wonderful," he told her sincerely. "And so do you. Don't worry. Everything will be fine."

It was at about that point that Jayne jogged out into the hallway of the 18th floor and started looking for Kaylee's room. He had picked the staircase on the opposite end of the hall from where it was, but it only took him a minute to get to the other side and find her door.

He knocked loudly with one meaty fist, making it rattle in its frame.

"Kaylee!" He hollered over the sound of the pounding. "You an' your boy in there? It's lunch time!"
