The ninth Doctor hurtled up the stairs, ignoring that faint whisper at the back of his mind that reminded him an elevator existed. Too slow. True, it might be faster in the long run, but he couldn't stand not to be moving right now. He was angry, no, furious, and the running at least felt like he was doing something.

Kill him, kill him, going to kill him...

His hands flexed angrily, one clutched tight around the sonic screwdriver. Not a weapon, but... the Doctor didn't like weapons, didn't use them unless absolutely necessary. It had other uses though, many of them. Some of which might come in handy.

Kill him, going to ki--

He burst out of the stairwell onto Rose's floor and made a beeline for her room. No point in being stealthy now, his last replies had advertised his arrival even if somehow his footsteps had not.

The tenth was only a few floors behind him, running up the many stairs at full speed as well - apparently they both found the same reasoning for not using the lift - while he stuffed the journal into his pocket, now unneeded as the Master only intended to taunt him.

Finally he made it to Rose's floor, throwing himself out into the hallway. Full-on anger mode now, nothing else but that. He may not have remembered Rose, but he sure as hell wasn't going to let the Master hurt her. He couldn't believe he'd spared even a bit of politeness for his former friend. He should have known this was going to happen, and now that it had... no second chances.

He rushed down the hallway, saw the door open like some sick welcoming gesture. Venus fly trap. He didn't know what he was going to find inside, but he was positive that it wasn't going to be good. But that didn't cause him to hesitate, not at all.

Rose Tyler smiled as she opened the door to the Master's room full of weaponry. His directions had been perfect. She had followed them immediately, not even pausing one bit to marvel at being within a different TARDIS than the one she knew and loved ( ... )

He didn't need his journal to have told him the Doctors were coming. He didn't need any sort of warning. No, he knew. He just knew - as any Time Lord would know. A sort of feeling in his mind that they were coming, that they were angry, and they were moving fast.

The Master unsheathed his sword. It hadn't been too long since he had used it last. Even if it had been a thousand years, he would have remembered everything as if it were yesterday.

His mind pulsed with a single thought, overriding even his fear.

Die, Doctor. Die. I'm going to kill you. Kill you. Kill you both. Die, my dear, dear Doctor, DIE!It was almost like some sort of sweet dirge playing in his head, setting the mood for everything, even if it was just in his head. They were in the hall. Of course they were. He didn't need to be a Time Lord to know that. He could hear the sounds of them running. Feet hitting the floor, coming right. To. Him. Right to this wonderfully laid little trap. Oh, he was so brilliant in his unplanned actions! So absolutely and entirely ( ... )

Nine skidded to a stop outside the doorway and took a cautious peek inside. No Rose in sight, which was a bad sign to begin with, and the Master was waiting. ...And armed.

That thought hit him like a freight train, momentarily knocking all plans of what he was going to do to him right out of his head. He'd been so angry and in such a hurry, he hadn't stopped to consider that the Master didn't share his distaste for weapons. Well. Something would have to be done about this. Could he bluff for a minute, just long enough to find something? Probably.

Though it seemed longer, it only took seconds for his brain to process the new plan. Holding one hand behind his back, he stormed into the room.

"Where is she?"

He heard Nine's voice from down the hallway, heard the anger and ran faster, if it was possible. He stuffed a hand into his pocket in pursuit of his own sonic screwdriver, his only means of defense. Knowing the Master, it wasn't going to be enough.

So he kept his hand in his pocket, ran towards the open doorway but stopped short. Panting a little, hearts pounding from exertion and anger, he stood at such an angle that Nine and only Nine would be able to see him in the hallway. Should he go back and get something to fight with? Should he go in now? Not only that, but he knew what his former self asked. And he, too, waited for the answer.
