Who: Aeris (protegerai) and Reno (ontheclockpro) What: Random Encounter When: Now? Where: Kitchen! Rating: PG-13 for swearing, I know its gonna happen.
Aeris had had a long night. Rather to her surprise she'd ended up running around the castle helping people who had been injured one way or another. But Aeris was no stranger to such things and handled it as best she could.
The upshot, though, was she hadn't gotten almost any sleep. Blearily she headed into the kitchen to find something to revive her, and stop the grumbling of her stomach.
In her zoned out state it took her a moment to notice the redhead. And even when she did, it took her another moment to realize exactly who it was. When she did, she jumped in surprise, dropping the cup she'd just taken hold of, barely registering when it shattered into a million pieces on the floor.
"Reno," she said softly. Not exactly the person she'd wanted to see. Though she was tempted to look (or hell, even run) away, she instead stood straighter, fixing him with an even, almost challenging gaze. She wouldn't be scared. She wanted things to be peaceful between them.
To be honest, Reno hadn't been paying much attention to his surroundings. Sure, not the smartest thing when you had crazy serial killers running around the halls, but the Turk was too hungry and worn out to care about that. Wasn't like he had been attacked yet by any of them, and he knew enough to keep away from people in his world who would want to pound him if not kill him
( ... )
Ancient. Aeris's expression didn't change, though she wanted to grimace. She couldn't say she was surprised by the slip.
At his question, however, her eyebrows shot up. She paused for a moment, then laughed softly, unable to help herself.
"Hello, Reno," she said gently. "I've been quite well in the past, oh, day or so."
She had to step back as a ghost came forward to clean up the mess the cup had made. She moved around it and took a few steps closer to Reno, but kept some distance between them. Clasping her hands behind her back, she simply observed him for a moment.
"There's just one thing I want to know. Are we going to start our old routine again, or can we finally lay the "capture the Ancient" game to rest?"
Hey, she laughed. And he hadn't been struck by a spell or her rod that was a lot larger than his - so he took that as a good sign. Not that he could really blame her if she did. Just you know - he still had a couple scars from those days.
This is when it occurred to him that he had left EMR back up in Misa's room. Nice going idiot, he told himself. He was never going to see that weapon again. Though he shrugged it off for now - bigger things to worry about right now.
Reno shifted uncomfortably when she observed him. He hadn't forgotten how the Ancie- how Aeris had a way that seemed almost like she could read right into you. Anyone who could do that, well made Reno uneasy sometimes. It was more Tseng's thing to like that sorta thing.
The question surprised him a bit more than it should of. But then again - it'd be over two years and you tend to take some things for granted. "Why would I start again?" He asked honestly. There was no point to it.
It hadn't even occurred to Aeris that she wasn't armed. She was really just counting on outrunning him if the need actually arose.
Seeing Reno now, she made a mental note to start carrying her staff or at least some materia on her when she was about in the castle. Heaven forbid she run into Sephiroth.
She smiled a little at his response. "That's exactly what I wanted to hear," she said cheerfully. "You don't have any orders here, right? It's all moot point. I don't have any problem with you, Reno, if you don't try to do anything to me." SHe shrugged a shoulder. "You were always just following orders, right? I never thought you were bad people."
Again she gave him that even look, almost as if she was testing him, to see how he'd respond.
He observe her and noted that he didn't see the giant staff of pain. Well, he could probably relax. Neither of them seem to want to start a fight. So long as any silvered hair guys didn't decide to join the awkward reunion, things might be okay.
Shrugging, he turned from her and opened the fridge as if to avoid her look. Maybe the Ancient was psychic or something - she had pretty much said words that Reno liked hearing. Not being called a bastard or having Turk said like some insult was a nice change from the usual reception he got from people from Gaia.
"Yeah, pretty much," he said. "Even if I did have orders - doubt they'd be about you." He braved a look, "Guy who gave those orders is dead." Reno wasn't sad to hear that news. Hojo was insane and he had been a real ass to the Turks. Closing the fridge, he shoved his hands in to his pockets. "And ShinRa ain't so much of a company anymore."
A slightly mischevious smile played about her lips as she continued to watch Reno, even after he turned away. With a shrug she resumed the hunt of food for herself, though she'd still watch him from the corner of her eye.
But she paused in her movements as he went on to explain. Setting down the plate and bread she'd fetched, she turned to look at him again. For the first time, she looked uncertain, but it was uncertain hope.
"So it's true, then? Cloud and the others. They defeated Sephiroth and saved the planet." Her voice was quiet, like she didn't want to be overheard. Since the moment she'd woken up she'd believed that Cloud had succeeded - it was just this feeling, strong as anything, that had clung to her. And talking to Red had been some proof, but she hadn't been totally sure. But hearing ShinRa was gone.. please, let it mean what she thought it meant.
"Yep." he said as he continued to look for food. Pulling out the fixings for a sandwich, he set them on the table. Yeah, he could ask the ghosts to make him something, but he always felt weird doing that. Something about being unable to talk to the person fixing your food made him uneasy. Back home he knew the names of every single employee in half of the Edge take-out restaurants.
"All of them fought Sephiroth and stopped Meteor from destroying us in the nick of time." He knew the story well, hell most people in Gaia did. "Its actually been about two years since then. Planet is still there."
"ShinRa itself got destroyed about a week before they destroyed Sephiroth." he remembered that part the best, running into Cloud and the others in the sewer and telling them it was over. "The President lived but he's looking more into fixing the mess we caused than anything."
"That is, before we all got stuck in this insane asulym."
