Who: Speed, Duo, Ruby What: So beginth the torture of Speed. Duo comes to check on him since he's being such an idiot clutz. When: Tonight, now Where: Room 1901 (Speed's room) Rating: PG-13, in case of mouths
Duo had given up on the elevators after the... memorable occasion involving -- or, rather, not involving -- clothes, two boys, and a very shocked Gundam pilot. Not that he had a problem with people... expressing themselves, he'd just prefer a little more warning, thanks.
He'd brought his journal (no point leaving it. If the guy actually did have a head injury, he'd need to get some kind of help), but made sure to close it, especially considering all of the close-your-journal bitching that had been going on.
He tried to keep himself from rushing, but still arrived at Speed's room a little out of breath. He tapped shave-and-a-haircut on the door and then leaned back to catch his breath and wait for a response.
Speed heard the familiar knock, paused to glance around his room, then headed cautiously for the door. He managed to make it with only one major accident. Surely that toe was going to fall off soon--he couldn't even feel the pain anymore.
He opened the door slowly, peering around from behind the wooden barrier cautiously. No weapons trained on him and he deemed the hallway safe. He slid out from behind the door and looked at his visitor.
The guy was younger than he had expected. Probably just a teen, the guy (girl?) had extremely long hair and he briefly wondered if this was just a wrong "address" kinda thing.
He tilted his head to the side and looked at the... person. "Duo?"
Duo was a little puzzled at Speed's cautious approach, but shrugged it off. "Yep, that's me," he responded with a grin and a left-handed salute. No obvious head wounds, at least. "You drop something else? I heard a crash."
"Uh, no... I just, um, heh, ran into something. Again." He seemed miffed, crestfallen even, with his shoulders hunched slightly as he spoke. He straightened a little and waved back behind him. "Come in?" he asked.
"Don't mind if I do." Duo stepped in, looking around -- weird, it looked nothing like his room. Then again, his room upstairs was oddly similar to the room he'd had in that posh high school during the war. "We need to get you a padded helmet or something?" he asked in hopes of lightening the situation a little.
Speed closed the door behind him and stepped further into the room, slightly around Duo and almost as if he were headed towards the bed. He paused to answer with a light chuckle. "Yea, at this rate? Maybe."
He continued forward, crossing the room to perch on the edge of his bed at the opposite side, left wall from walking in the door. Directly opposite the door was the window/glass door that led out to the balcony. It hadn't come that way originally.
The room was sparse, cozy, but obviously kinda sloppy. It was cluttered--or at least it was obvious that it normally was, although Speed had made a small effort recently to clear it up a bit. Random posters hung haphazardly on the wall, everything from rock bands to old school video games to science/evidence. A computer desk sat on the right wall with a laptop and his journal on it.
The CSI waved towards the small, wooden-but-comfy chair pushed up underneath the desk. "If you want," he said absentmindedly. He glanced around the room, looking for something, but completely not sure what.
Speed's mouth wouldn't work properly, it just kept opening and closing like a floundering fish left on dry land with no hope of ever returning to water. His eyes were so wide, it was a wonder they didn't pop out. He also couldn't help it when said wide-eyes floated downwards from Ruby's face to--well, you know
( ... )
Duo couldn't help it -- he burst out laughing. The interaction between the two was just priceless. He probably should have been more surprised by the transformation, but seriously. Talking. Pink. Dragon-cat.
He almost wanted to offer her congratulations for flabbergasting Speed so well, but he didn't really know either of them that well and didn't want to stick his nose where it didn't belong. ...Not that that wasn't happening by just being in the room, but hey, he'd had an invite.
"Bet your ass it's cool," Ruby said with a wink. She picked her feet up off of the ground then crossed one leg over the other, hovering in a sitting position and looking quite comfortable. She floated slowly back over to Speed until she was almost touching him then stopped. He could probably feel the heat off of her skin. She was gonna get in trouble for this. But it was fun.
She gave Duo a bit of a look then raised her brow at him. "Anyway. So you, Kid. Duo or whatever your name is. What's your story. And what's so funny?"
She hadn't really meant to sound surly. She really didn't mind his presence at all. Ruby was just... a little socially retarded on a regular basis. She sort of knew she was...but she didn't particularly care.
"Kid works, all the name I had for..." Duo trailed off for a moment, but quickly picked back up again, "for a while. Ah, you want the story starting with Adam and Eve, or just my part of it?" He grinned for a moment, then shrugged, cocking his head to the side. "Just you guys, that's all. Haven't spent much time in pleasant company, even before showing up here. Nice to see people having fun for a change."
Duo smiled and waved a hand. "Not talking really, but we had our pen-pal moments," he gestured toward the journal he'd set down upon entering the room. "I'd bet it's just temporary, though. I mean, I keep hearing about this week-loss stuff, maybe it's just one of those?"
Speed nodded thoughtfully. "Pen-pals, right, I get it. So we talked through the journals a bit... makes sense. Easiest way to make friends here, actually. I think... I'm not... I'm not sure anymore... I guess... I can't remember any friends here.... so... how would I know?"
It was unusual for Speed to blab on for so long, and when he noticed this he suddenly clamped his mouth shut and promptly fell quiet. He glanced around the room as if looking for something again. After a while, he remembered.
"Oh, yea. The weekly things? That's a good point. I've never experienced anything like that myself, but others sure as the heck have. Maybe... maybe you're right." He glanced at Duo warily.
"I sure hope so, man. I mean, actually forgetting all that stuff for forever would suck," Duo frowned just a little -- it sucked forgetting it even if it was only for a week. He had no idea how to help, too, which almost made it worse. "Hey, at least you didn't lose all of your memories," he offered, hoping to lighten the atmosphere.
Speedle nodded his agreement. "Yea, it would." He sat uncomfortably in the silence that followed, forgetting to smirk lightly as Duo made his small little attempt to lighten the mood. He glanced around the room, a habit he had when he was thinking or lost in space.
He came back to reality and glanced at Duo. "Well, umm..... I'm sorry," he said abruptly. "I don't know what to do now."
