It occurs to me that the smartest thing Obama could do is choose some other female running mate. Hillary Clinton is not the only woman in politics, and by now it seems to be the only quality she's running on. Put some other woman, one who's still sane, into that seat, and I suspect half the Clinton supporters would blink and say "well, I guess that's pretty much all we wanted." Have I mentioned how much I like Barbara Boxer?

Before Clinton's concession, I read a lot of support for that (particularly Governor Sebelius of Kansas). Oddly since then, I've seen two schools of thought against it: one (also applied to Senator Clinton) that it is "too much to ask" to have both candidates not be white males, and two that Senator Clinton's supporters would regard it as a "slap in the face" that some other woman would be picked. I'm not advocating either school of thought (I think they are both more than a bit pigheaded), but this is what I'm reading. Governor Sebelius's stock in particular seems to have dropped in the last week for what appear to be quite sexist reasons
