[Torchwood]

We really do need a rift detector here don't we... I tried to see if any of our scanners picked up anything when the children vanished, but I didn't see anything trackable.

Are we all okay after having loved and lost?

Tell me Jack, are you going to cook?

I was planning on it, unless you don't trust my culinary skills?

I can hardly trust them. Though I am willing to give them the benefit of the doubt.

You seem capable enough.

Capable enough? That almost sounds like a compliment. I'll have to see what I can do to make it all the way around to actually impressing you.

So are you accepting my offer?

Actually, the castle gave me a few of my scanners from back home as a Christmas present, including the rift detector. I haven't picked up so much as a blip. I've been working on trying to reconfigure the ones I built from scratch before that to pick up...whatever energy this place uses, but no luck so far.

[lalala ignoring the second bit]

Really? [wonders why he didn't notice that... but then again the place is still pretty barren so the vast empty sort of overwhelms the actual stuff]

Well when the Doctor left I checked his old room and managed to find the odd things he pieced together, of course what they do? You got me.

[he'll come back to that questions Toshiko]

[of course, it has nothing to do with any muns forgetting to mention anything *cough*]

Hm, well, I'll poke around with them, but I can't really promise much without the proper equipment. Speaking of which, I ought to go see if there's anything in Nine's TARDIS he'll let me, er, borrow when he gets back.

[of course not, it was just something Jack overlooked was all -- more important things to pay attention to or something]

Borrow -- [laughs] Sounds about right to me. I was planning on giving him a tour if he wanted one, but it's taking a bit longer to get this place up and running than I expected.

[Sighs a little, not quite sure how to respond. He'd been spending his time making sure Del was alright and fixing up the leaflet stand in order to keep his thoughts at bay.]

He looked like her, like Lisa.

I wasn't expecting that.

[Frowns in consternation, as he tries to articulate what he means before giving in.]

I'll be fine sir.

I'm sorry to hear that Ianto, that must not have been easy to go through. [knows that his own child was with a stranger, and it does sort of make him wonder about a few things]

If you need time, you know it's yours.

Thank you but it's better for me to keep busy sir.

Besides, I have a lot to do on the tourist office. I should really try and make some headway.

Did you check with any of the residents that went on that trip out to wherever it was they went? Might be some good information there as well.

From what people are saying about this place, I doubt we'll ever find out where all the activity is coming from, Jack.

I'm...fine.

Ahhh... that's the spirit Owen. [wry] We can at least try you know. All I've seen and read in this journal has never mentioned a Torchwood set up here before, maybe it just needs a new set of eyes to stare at it.

[Oh god, so dry] I'll get my pom-poms. Rah. Rah. Rah.

What? You mean like one of the new folks who've just dropped in who haven't been jaded by all the shenanigans yet?

[just the way he likes his Owen!]

Well I was thinking more like one of us, but I'm pretty sure once they arrive they're introduced to the shenanigans of this place.

[late response is late, because Nine has been off in emo-land after Five left. And he is most definitely not answering that question.]

Erm, I'm fairly certain there's not a rift that needs...detecting.

Of course it takes a Doctor to point that out to me. [har har]

Actually I was thinking of trying to reconfigure it. Toshiko says that the castle gave her one for Christmas. If it knew what it was, I would think it understands the concept of the rift at least.

It could explain how things seemingly appear and disappear so easily.

I prefer the transmat theory, myself. Couldn't hurt to give it a shot, though.

Feel like swinging by and taking a look at it? Toshiko mentioned perhaps seeing if you had anything to [a subtle cough] donate, to our cause?
