Building the Guy

Nov 03, 2011 20:22

[In the lobby this morning there are long tables set up, sort of in the style of build-a-teddy-bear. Except what needs to be constructed aren't bears... There are big shapeless man-size dolls, along with stuffing and various decorations to give the 'doll' a personal twist. On the first table there are the empty cloth men, on the next are various ( Read more... )

[Kanji isn't building dolls to be burned, but he has appropriated quite a bit of the materials and is making dolls of a different sort with an expression of deep relief and contentment.

Currently he's carefully attaching cotton balls to the outside of a sheep-shaped length of cloth that he's sewn together. A nearly life-sized sheep-shaped length of cloth.

And he's been at it for a while, considering that there's a very elaborate and intricate little lamb doll already finished beside him.]

[Durge wander over and picks up Kanji's sheep doll. Outwardly he shows no expression, but he does handle the doll rather gently for such a burly looking man]

Are you not supposed to be making men?

[He watches closely until he's sure the doll is in good hands and then turns back to his sewing with a small smile.]

Why'd I wanna make stuff just to burn it? These'll last and make somebody happy.

[Quietly still inspecting the little sheep as he speaks]

I know not, only that the instructions over there seem to ask us to do so.

What will you do with these?

Well, I don't get it, so I don't see a reason to follow 'em.

[Kanji thinks for a couple minutes. He kinda was doing it just because he could]

Keep 'em until I find someone to give 'em to. There's kids here so I bet one of 'em could use a doll to play with.

I suppose not except for fear of reprisal. I hear the castle is infamous for forcing people to act against their will.

[Super uplifting, Durge adfjhadf.]

Children have been brought here as well?! Despicable...

I'd like to see 'em try to make me! I don't do no shit I don't wanna. What're they gonna do, lock me up somewhere?

[He seems proud of that, yep.]

Yeah, my best friend's little cousin is here. She's seven. I ain't really seen kids other than her but if one got brought here, others would. They must miss their moms and dads a ton, so if I can help by makin' dolls or whatever, I wanna.

[Durge doesn't have any better of an idea of what the castle is capable of than Kanji does, so he needs approvingly]

That is an honorable thing.

I'm just doin' what I can, you know? I ain't really seen anything that people need protectin' from, 'cept the castle, and I dunno how to fight a place yet.

Likely it takes a magic I do not have.

Probably. I don't know either. Maybe almighty? I don't got any of that and my magic kinda sucks anyway.

[He's actually trying to figure out what kind of magic would work.]

[head tilt] What sort of magic do you possess?

I've got a couple buffs, a couple passives to amp my lightning and then my lightning. And my phys skills, but they ain't magic.

[He rambles that off and then belatedly realizes that this man might have no clue what those are.]

Uh... well, a buff makes something stronger temporarily through magic--I can strengthen attack and defense. The amp spells are always active and they make my lightning spells way more powerful when I cast 'em. Problem is, even with the amps my lightning ain't so strong. It does the job, but someone with strong magic could cast way stronger lightning spells than me.

[Most of that went over his head, but he does appreciate the explanation]

It is more magic than I am capable of, in any case. Such things are a rare gift.

[He chuckles]

Pretty rare where I come from too. Didn't even know I had 'em before a few months ago. Not sure I can even us 'em here though.

It may be good idea to test such a thing. It sounds to me the sort of thing you would not wish to find out when you need it most.
