Building the Guy

Nov 03, 2011 20:22

[In the lobby this morning there are long tables set up, sort of in the style of build-a-teddy-bear. Except what needs to be constructed aren't bears... There are big shapeless man-size dolls, along with stuffing and various decorations to give the 'doll' a personal twist. On the first table there are the empty cloth men, on the next are various ( Read more... )

[Yuan takes a good long while to survey the board and all the associated supplies, before shaking his head with a smirk.]

Charming. We're to build human effigies and burn them. I see no way this could possibly go horribly wrong.

[Daine's already at the first table, peering at everything.]

Not horribly wrong, no. Probably horrifically wrong, though.

I suppose it's no use trying to keep people from taking part. [He's actually examining a few of the cloth scraps now, almost as if he's considering doing it himself.] ...And I guess there'd be a certain therapeutic value in it, if I actually knew or cared anything about this man.

You're probably right. There's bound to be someone, isn't there?

[She eyes the cloth in question.] Make your own, then.

[Somewhat tempted to make a Tamaki doll. He holds one doll up, inspecting it.]

So... to make up for Halloween, we get to burn each other?

[Hermione has never celebrated Bonfire Night quite like this. It's... definitely strange]

You're supposed to burn the doll.

No, I get that, I'm just thinking... This castle can be pretty sadistic, and since we can dress these things like anyone...

You think they're meant to be voodoo dolls, where whatever happens to the doll happens to the person?

[Vereesa is passing by the various tables, red eyes scrutinizing it all. What holiday has Paradisa brought upon them now?

The sign catches her attention and she mutters.]

Much like the burning of the Wickerman, I suppose.

Burning of Wickerman? Is that a custom from your world?

[Kat's there out of curiosity, perusing over the sign and the supplies. This whole 'Build-A-Guy' thing was as new to her as anyone else.]

[She snaps to attention when she realizes someone is addressing her, eyes narrowed harshly. Really, she shouldn't bother, but... well, when one can speak of the Forsaken and its traditions, why not?]

Indeed. We burn the effigy in celebration of the Dark Lady freeing the Forsaken from the Scourge. It is a day of independence, though the celebration is typically held in days prior to this.

[Kat doesn't react besides a small nod.] I bet it's good to remember getting free from oppression, or else risk taking it all forgranted.

[Sadly, she can't speak from experience. As she's recently found out, she was long dead before her war end.]

[Well, to say he was expecting this when he first came into the lobby today would have been an obvious lie.

So after getting over the initial confusion on what all this stuff was for, Rookie could be found a little off to the side and sort of glancing over some of the decorating items that were nearest him.]

[Kallen's already by the doll stuffing station, violently jamming stuffing into the doll's limp figure. This ought to be interesting.]

[There's a quirk of his head once he sees her, before he's quietly making his way over to peer past her shoulder and down at the doll.] You're actually going to make one?

[She doesn't look up at him, but continues to work.]

Yes, I [stuff stuff] am. In a way [STUFF STUFF] it's very [STUFF STUFF JAM PUNCH] calming.

[Galadriel would be glancing over the supplies and the explanation with a look of mild distaste.]

A most curious form of celebration.

[Sorry folks, she's actually known people who burned to death and kind of fails to see the fun in mimicking it.]

I've heard of the incident they are referring to before. I don't understanding wanting to celebrate it.
