Building the Guy

Nov 03, 2011 20:22

[In the lobby this morning there are long tables set up, sort of in the style of build-a-teddy-bear. Except what needs to be constructed aren't bears... There are big shapeless man-size dolls, along with stuffing and various decorations to give the 'doll' a personal twist. On the first table there are the empty cloth men, on the next are various ( Read more... )

[Yuan takes a good long while to survey the board and all the associated supplies, before shaking his head with a smirk.]

Charming. We're to build human effigies and burn them. I see no way this could possibly go horribly wrong.

[Daine's already at the first table, peering at everything.]

Not horribly wrong, no. Probably horrifically wrong, though.

I suppose it's no use trying to keep people from taking part. [He's actually examining a few of the cloth scraps now, almost as if he's considering doing it himself.] ...And I guess there'd be a certain therapeutic value in it, if I actually knew or cared anything about this man.

You're probably right. There's bound to be someone, isn't there?

[She eyes the cloth in question.] Make your own, then.

[He smirks at one of the dolls, a rather vicious expression.] ...Maybe I will. No one still in the castle, of course, but...what could it hurt?

[And with that decided, he gathers a length of white fabric, surveying it with a critical eye, trying to determine where to cut.] ...Then again, I don't know the first thing about sewing dresses.

[Yuan gets an eyebrow raise in his direction when that smirk appears.] I'm not sure.

[She pauses for a moment before pointing at the outline of the 'doll'.] Stuff that first, then maybe try shaping the dress around it?

[The vicious look vanishes as quickly as it appeared, replaced by the usual practical air he has when working on a project.]

I suppose that's the best method, yes. [And he begins stuffing it, a little awkwardly since he's really not usually one for arts and crafts. Occasionally, a thin smile crosses his lips as he imagines what it will look like when it's done.]

[She watches silently for a little while, but eventually, she decides to ask what's on her mind.]

Do you plan to burn it when it's been completed?

[Absently, as he finishes stuffing the doll and turns his attention to mangling the white fabric into a dress:] There wouldn't be much point in making it if I weren't. Sewing isn't exactly a hobby of mine.

Point taken. [Glancing back over at the doll patterns, she absently contemplates making one herself.]

...Is this supposed to honor or dishonor him...?

I can't imagine a way in which burning someone in effigy would be meant as an honor.

Perhaps it's a way to send them a spirit or free them? [of course, pile driving vampires is pretty much burning them alive...]

[Allen is walking out of the kitchen and back through the lobby when he notices the stand. He approaches from behind, noticing Yuan]

Eh? What's this?
