Seventh Mind Read - Getting Down to Business

Oct 14, 2011 22:28

[Having finally having had a chance to speak with Fred about his plans for Cerebro, Charles figures it's high time he spoke with his other potential assistants. He knows it's a big project, but it'll be well worth everyone's time in the long run. Sitting out on the roof, Charles clears his throat a moment, before writing a filter into his journal.]

Maybe like pieces in a block puzzle sliding.

Ooh, I rather like that interpretation. As though each room in the castle fits with it's neighbors, and can slide from one place to the next like a puzzle cube.

It would have fun to be in here for that, unless you got caught between rooms.

Yes indeed. [And he shudders a bit, thinking of being stuck between rooms thusly. Imagining the castle acting as guillotine without necessarily meaning to.]

Even then, I can only imagine the sort of inertia the rooms might gain, speeding around the castle as they realign themselves in the optimal configuration. It could make for an interesting bit of fiction, writing of a thing like that.

Are you a writer?

Oh no. I have done some writing, research papers and the like, but never creatively. I speak more as someone who can appreciate fantastic stories, such as what we find here so often.

I see. I suppose it's true that the castle might have rearranged everything in an instant, I'm sure it could. But it did kick us out for a few days.

Indeed. It was quite a bother, trying to navigate outside while the wheels of my wheelchair were half-clogged with leaves. Still, considering how long we were out there, whatever the castle did must have been a laborious endeavor.

Or it was just another way to mess with us.

[Ah, a wheelchair? She's suddenly reminded of Barbara Gordon. Old friends...]

Who are you?

Knowing the reputation of the castle, that wouldn't come as a surprise either.

Oh, forgive me. I didn't introduce myself, did I? My name's Charles Xavier.

It is no trouble. And to bother the residents is always sufficient reason for the castle to do anything, I think.

So it seems. The way I look at it, the castle can't very well give us any sort of boon without taking something, or otherwise causing some sort of mischief first. Almost as though it's exacting payment upon us whether we want it or not.

I would say that's exactly how Paradisa works. It's always poking around for a reaction, and it will keep jabbing until it finds one.

I count myself lucky that I haven't been subjected to this yet. Although, it's only been a few month, so perhaps it's just biding it's time with me.

It's a strange thing, but there's a small part of me that's actually looking forward to it. I'm a scientist, so getting a chance to see the world from a different perspective is something I live for.
