Seventh Mind Read - Getting Down to Business

Oct 14, 2011 22:28

[Having finally having had a chance to speak with Fred about his plans for Cerebro, Charles figures it's high time he spoke with his other potential assistants. He knows it's a big project, but it'll be well worth everyone's time in the long run. Sitting out on the roof, Charles clears his throat a moment, before writing a filter into his journal.]

In my ... uhhh ... Oh, right! [it takes him a second to remember the guy, since he's only ever talked to him in a weird, castle-induced situation and technically wasn't actually THERE]

What's the project?

((OOC: Throwing you Ray instead of Five if'n you don't mind - the Time Lord's slate is a bit busy atm, and Ray's isn't.))

Yes indeed. I had a feeling your doppleganger might not mention me, but that's all right.

Basically, it's a telepathic transmitter. When used, it amplifies and broadcasts an individual's brainwaves, and in the case of a telepath, greatly expands the range of their abilities.

((OOC:S'all good! <3))

Oh, no, he did, it just ... took me a sec to remember, is all.

Wow, that sounds great! I've worked with something like that on a really, really small scale - more like a wave scanner with digital visualization capabilities. I dunno how much help I'll be, but I'll do whatever I can!

[warning: his big scanner was a colander with K'nex and wires and things sticking out all over it, hooked up to an old Apple monitor. it was not exactly high tech]

Ahh, all right then. I wish I could have met you in person during all that. Not that your avatar wasn't a fascinating man to speak with, of course. I was particularly interested in that "mood slime" you had on display.

I'm hoping to use it in case we face another foe like Legato, so that I, or one of the castle's other talented telepaths can match him in strength. My plan was to build it in the Peace Patrol's headquarters, in the interest of both working with them, and making sure that such a device has adequate security keeping it from being used by the wrong sort.

[Considering the device Hank built, it's not that much different. If all else fails, that's why Charles asked Shiki to come up with elegant designs for such a device. She may seem like an odd sort of helper for this sort of project, but Charles never does anything without reason.]

[MOLOTOV IS ALWAYS ON THE ROOF, no not always, but a lot. Also, she is an elf right now, and something about that keeps driving her to be outside as much as possible.

She peeks out from behind a turret to snort a little.]

Were you not told? The castle is magic. What else is there to be curious about?

[Charles just smiles that patient, winning smile of his.]

Oh, I'm well aware of the castle's magical nature, but even taking that into consideration, I'm still curious as to the actual process of it. Simply saying "magic did it" isn't a satisfactory explanation, at least not for me.

What, you think all the furniture grew legs and walked around like a cartoon? Perhaps there was a song and dance involved.

[Charles laughs. He knows she's being sarcastic, but the mental image amuses him just the same.]

Perhaps. After all, no one was able to actually witness it happening, so there's no telling how it was accomplished. Personally, I find myself imagining the castle's ghosts acting as some sort of otherworldly moving crew, carrying all of our worldly possessions down the numerous flights of stairs to their new homes. Of course, none of the ghosts will confirm this, but it's still something to think about.

Keeping out of trouble? [he laughs] Some might say that's an impossible feat. I've actually been a bit busy lately trying to plan a bit of an expedition... on top of some other things...

Cerebro... Right! I remember, now, that's the device we were talking about at the party! I'd love to help.

And evah! justcharles October 15 2011, 04:17:28 UTC
Ahh...but that's half the fun of being you I suppose, keeping people guess. An expedition? Of what sort? You've piqued my curiosity.

Yes indeed. Fred seems to think it possible, if a bit time-consuming to actually put together. Right now, my main concern is actually gathering the raw materials, and constructing the thing, once we get all of the science worked out for actually making it work.

Oh nothing too extravagant. Just a handful of us checking up on things in the Dead Zone, doing some exploring. We haven't got a set plan.

Well I can certainly help with the construction, I've got plenty of tools, not to mention my screwdriver. As far as gathering the raw materials, can't you just ask the castle for what you'd need?

There was a time when the towers weren't part of the castle, correct? It could be that it expands or shrinks depending on how many people live here.

I wouldn't know. The castle's elevators used to not go up quite that far, so I never had the chance to investigate those parts of the castle. That's an interesting theory though, given the nature of the magical force governing the castle, it makes sense.

There are many rooms in the castle that didn't used to exist, if the records in the journal are true.

So the castle seems to scale itself up as more people fill it. That makes sense, though it doesn't explain why we were all forced out onto the grounds during this particular remodel. Perhaps something else happened that we've yet to discover?

Maybe like pieces in a block puzzle sliding.

justcharles October 15 2011, 05:46:50 UTC
Ooh, I rather like that interpretation. As though each room in the castle fits with it's neighbors, and can slide from one place to the next like a puzzle cube.

It would have fun to be in here for that, unless you got caught between rooms.

justcharles October 15 2011, 05:57:30 UTC
Yes indeed. [And he shudders a bit, thinking of being stuck between rooms thusly. Imagining the castle acting as guillotine without necessarily meaning to.]

Even then, I can only imagine the sort of inertia the rooms might gain, speeding around the castle as they realign themselves in the optimal configuration. It could make for an interesting bit of fiction, writing of a thing like that.
