If anyone needs me, I'll be in the library for a while today, then out and around the castle grounds. I won't have my journal open while I'm going over maps, if I guess that's also an invitation.
Or is all the grumbling and nonsense the castle playing tricks on me? At least Scooter still seems to know what I'm gesturing about.
I'm starting to ( Read more... )

[ Sakura pauses, having to ask herself is she was sure she just heard that right. She thinks she did? With a nod and smile to Rhyme, she waves, Scooter woofing a hello. Sakura approaches to look at what Rhyme is making, curious. Smells somewhat familiar! ]

[ Sakura looks at the dango, then nods slowly. She can give it a try! She's done this before, if not in months. Which makes her sad, since she actually likes dango.

That being said, Sakura steps in and starts fiddling around in what counts as proper for someone who started cooking all on her own for herself a few years back, once moving out of her parent's home. Dudududu! Scooter goes to take up his position under the kitchen table. Close enough to dart out and eat things falling off the people-sized counters, far enough to be out of the way. ]

[Normally, he just gets the journal to dictated what Sakura says to him and everything is good. They can have their strange half-written-half-spoken conversation and most enjoyable it is too.

But now the journal is spouting words he doesn't recognise]

...I think this ridiculous thing has ceased to work.

I'm starting to think there really is something wrong here. Maybe just with the journal?
I recognize your voice, Fenris, but not anything you're saying.

[Hrmmm he switches to Thedas common tongue, because EVERYONE speaks Thedas common tongue, right? RIGHT?!!]

...No. It still is not working. I should have known this magic would backfire some day. It always does. Perhaps it is just the book?

[ She's hearing multiple languages now, and that was another shift she recognized as one in language, if she has no damn clue what he's saying. And her writing->dictation apparently isn't making sense to him, or maybe it is! It doesn't help her either way, since she still can't understand what he's saying.

Frustrated, she pauses to sketch out a very rough estimate of where she is, and a GIANT QUESTION MARK. It kind of looks like the kitchen, and those stick figures are probably her and scooter, and then that other stick figure might be Fenris -- she's. She's no artist. For some reason the microwave is drawn almost as big as the fridge. (Who knows.) ]

[She's drawn to the characters on the page, rather impressed by them. They remind her of some of the scrolls she's seen around Dalaran.]

May I ask what that is you are writing?

If I understood your tone at all...
I'd answer your question if I could, since I think you were asking one?
I... I'm sorry, I have no idea what you just said.

[She furrows her brows. More characters that she cannot understand. At first she believed them to be some sort of code, but if that is her language...

This time she very consciously speaks in common English.]

Can you understand me?

[ Sakura pauses; the entire sound of what was being spoken had just changed. It's been so many months of common understanding that it takes longer to penetrate, but... language. She's hearing yet another language! Something's wrong, but it might be personal. She'd need to find someone she could understand first -- but hadn't she understood Rhyme?

Maybe it wasn't just her? ]

Those were different languages, weren't they? Maybe the journals aren't translating for us?
I don't think I know either language you're speaking.
I still don't understand what you're saying.

kitchen; Chinese (for now), possibly bad Japanese later goldencirclet August 21 2011, 20:40:59 UTC
[There's a tiny child in the kitchen, eating sandwiches that seems to have been dipped in peanut butter and jelly. Goku's cooking skills are nonexistent, but at least he saw Apollo making PB&J once.

Seeing Sakura come in, he shoves the food in his mouth and tries to look innocent.]

Hello!

[Never mind that it came out 'ni hao', the monkey just thinks it's normal.]

[ Sakura... stares at the child, opening her mouth to -- say nothing, but she would have asked what he'd just said. Hesitantly, she waves! The furtive food shoving is more amusing (reminds her a little of Naruto, when he was younger, if that habit annoyed the hell out of her then) but her focus is on what she hears. ]

[He just smiles at her and waves back, before looking a bit fascinated by her hair. Then he opens his mouth and words just spill out in the typical fashion of a six-year-old.]

Yer hair's pink! That's real pretty! Did ya put paint in it? Can I touch it? What's your name? I'm Goku!

[...which pretty much just stems down to Chinese gibberish and 'Goku'.]

[ She cants her head to the side, barely registering that Goku is a name she's heard around somewhere before, and not entirely sure it's his name, but gambling it might be, given he's chattering away at her. On that chance, she keeps up a smile, then taps on her breastbone, and then the name tag on her shoulder.

Whiiich is in screwy Japanese. 8|; ]

[he doesn't think to check his journal in the morning. And, even if he had, there was no way Odd would have understood the message she'd left for him. So instead of answering, he'll just be hanging out on the sixth floor of the library. He's picked up A Midsummer Night's Dream by Shakespeare and is quietly reading.

Little Ozzie would be proud]

[ Sakura heads up like she said she would, bringing up several rice balls she ended up rolling (a few she shoved shredded pork into) herself in a nice little bento. Mostly this makes it easier to handle them and the two larger maps she has in tubes under her arm, ones she'd picked up from a store down in the City months back.

She finds a table first, clear of anything else, and leans the containers up against it before setting off to find the person she's expecting will be here. When she does find him, she whistles -- wondering what language he'll be speaking. Probably not one she'll recognize. ]

[ She figures it's just a greeting, so she nods her head and signs back "Hello!" in ASL. Then BSL, since she likes to keep using all she's learned. For those with no idea what she was doing, Sakura seemed very animated with her hands.

After that, she makes a "come here" gesturing, waving him toward her. She has the maps! Now she just needs the... person! ]
