[Most people, especially older residents, would be taking things seriously. Being concerned. Trying to figure out what's going on. Checking weaponry. Checking supplies. Normally Allen would be helping with that]
[That is, if he wasn't having a geek-spazzing as he runs around the deck- a yellow parrot that used to be Timcanpy following after him- checking out every little thing from the cannon to climbing up the mast. ]
[Kaylee might be used to being on a ship...but this was a very different ship indeed. Her hair is mussed from sleep and it's taking her a little bit to get used to the roll of the deck underfoot, but she's smiling pretty widely herself]
This ain't exactly what I was expectin' to find when I woke up.
Possibly! It'd be really neat if it was! Well, at least as long as it could be honourable pirates...
[he laughs as Timcanpy clumsily lands on his shoulder, getting used to being a bird] Same with my friends! I can think of a few that would get a kick out of it!
I don't got many folks here from back home...but if they were, it wouldn't be all that different from normal. Exceptin' the part where we're on water and lookin' like somethin' outta a history story.
[Kaylee just has no shame. And faith in their Captain that whatever they do will end up okay.]
I s'pose it ain't so different from travelin' from place t'place on land, 'cept things change a bit faster, seein' as one planet might be all rich and fanciful and another might be just scrapin' by, if we've gone out to the border planets.
Well, mostly they're only just gettin' settled. So unless you're real lucky to find somethin' valuable the central planets want, you ain't exactly gonna be swimmin' in wealth right off.
The Alliance don't come stickin' their nose in folks' business anywhere near as much, out there.
It can be a bit of a problem, when there's somethin' actually needs interferin'...but the Alliance ain't exactly good about helpin' at the right sorts of times anyways, so it's mostly better t'be without.

[He'll turn around to look at her. He's not sure he knows her, but HEY THIS IS SO COOL IT CLEARLY NEEDS TO BE SHARED]
This almost looks like a pirate ship! Do you think it's that? It even has cannons!

...she won't complain about the pirates part, either]
You think the castle's expectin' us to get all piratical?
I can't wait 'til Zoe sees all this. [though she'll have to wait to see that particular reaction. She hasn't realized she isn't there, yet]

Are you part of some pirate crew without an ocean?! [ *A* ]

But my ship was the future sort. Travelin' between planets and all. So this [gesturing] ain't exactly normal for me.

That's so neat! I can't imagine what it would be like traveling planet to planet! I've always lived on land.

I guess it could be like that when I was traveling. There were many places that were rich, and others that were barely hanging on.
But why were all the border planets poor?
