[Weeks of Inactivity later... Written by Pucci who has been merely observing more than anything lately.]

How many of you would label your powers as something 'abnormal' or 'one of a kind' where you are from? For what reason does this apply and are you persecuted at all for those powers, or do you just merely keep them hidden?

On the other end, how ( Read more... )

It depends on the source of the power. For example, many mutants in my world are greatly feared. "Super powers", however, are not uncommon.

What's the difference between 'mutants' and those with super powers? Genetics?

Yes. Some humans believe that we will drive them extinct, or that we plan to.

I wouldn't know about that. Wouldn't those with powers just be the next step in humanity? That's not extinction. I'd say it's Progress.

[In perfect script like someone would find out of a fancy schmancy noble's record:]

Uncommon magical aptitude may be just as feared as strength or cunning. Ultimately, it does not rest on the issue of one having an abnormal gift, but the way he uses what he is given.

So one may not be feared or improperly treated for what they have, but rather if they use it for ill-means. That's an unbiased way if I ever saw one. At least they wait to see the result.

Persecution exists in many forms. Those who desire to hate will continue to do so in spite of logic.

[...That cuts too close to home.] ..Yes. I know exactly what that's like. In a different way, but yes.

I think I may fall somewhere in between your two categories. I would not say that wizards are terribly common. No matter where you go there is usually some level of fear to be expected from annemer, though the level of acceptance, and any corresponding laws regarding them, can vary widely from region to region.

So there is no set standard in your world, and it more depends on where you go within it. Sounds logical, some places could be more likely to be accepting of them.

The standards are usually set by whatever school of magic is popular in that region and whoever holds power. In some places, like my city, only certain types of magic are disallowed, whereas other places simply blindly persecute whatever wizard they manage to get their hands on.

... Sounds about right. There will always be those resentful and full of fear of those who are capable of more, despite any good intention.

Mere curiosity. Longing for my own world, so I decide to learn of others to forget.

Do you have some kind of abnormal power then?

Indeed I do. It's something many people have within them but never realize or awaken it.

[written, because thinking takes time]

Where I come from, powers are considered rare, though there is a sizable number of people who possess them. [the rarity's kind of a "in comparison" thing] Unique skills among those with powers, even more so.

Most are in the military, so I guess their place in society depends on how you view soldiers.

Most in the military?
They get recruited quickly, to have full use of them made, don't they? [Amused, but you couldn't tell from how he wrote it.]

That's true. It makes practical sense when those powers will fade away soon enough. [among other reasons, like alien invasions out of nowhere]
