[this is a good question and he thinks it over for a minute]

I didn't set out to be a hero, that's for sure. Things just sort of happened. So I guess it was both?

[a short laugh] I doubt most heroes woke up one day and said, "Hey, I feel like leaving a mark in the history books." You couldn't have been recognized as a hero unless you proved yourself capable of doing heroic things, right?

I donno, in some of the stories the heroes sure seem to spring up from nowhere. You don't imagine them to be... our age, you know?

Eh? Why not? [most aces of Hartmann's generation from her world are in their teens or early twenties, after all]

It's a bit of a circle. Most of this stuff happens in the Netherworlds because someone gets bored though.

What do you mean by that?

Simple. Some Overlord gets bored as hell and decides to take over another Netherworld or cause chaos. Standard stuff.

[dryly] Yeah, I never said that they don't...

I guess this sort of thing can't ever be just one or the other.

I guess... I mean heroes need help. That's what their comrades are for!

True, true! One person alone can only do so much after all.

[lala, cooking you some lunch... or dinner... whatever time it is :)]

That sounds like a really complicated question.

[yay, food ♥ it is a wonder no one's tried to bar her from cooking in here yet]

It is. And it's sort of circular, too, so either side can lead to the other.

Hm... but I think it's still better for the world to be at peace. Then people who want to do good things for the world can gain those positions in government and religion, and influence the world for the better.

I think it can happen the other way round just as much. There will be corrupt leaders who only use their power for their own gain and block people with good intentions from those positions.
