hellfire and brimstone
[the sun has begun to set in the distance yet again... and with it, the shadows stir to life once more.
the streets have been all but abandoned on the outskirts of town - the buildings destroyed, rubble and entrails from monsters and human corpses alike littering everything as far as the eye can see. the stench of death is simply pervasive... misery palpable the further into town you go... the closer you draw to the castle.
an exodus has begun since early afternoon; the townspeople have begun flowing towards the castle gates in a trickle that became a cascade. they're pushing up against the iron gates, squishing some of the more unfortunate souls up against the bars as they desperately beg and plead and threaten to be allowed inside to the safety of the castle. they are crazed, desperate...
men. women. children. let us in!! the guard has withdrawn from the town, now fully focused on the defense of the castle proper... and they double their efforts to hold back the raging flow.
as soon as darkness descends...
a bubbling mass rises up from the center of the crowd pushing at the gates, swelling up like smoke and carrying bodies with it - pure darkness, eating away at whoever is unfortunate enough to be trapped inside. the horrified screams of the townspeople echo and the din has become a violent roar of panic.
and now the guards definitely aren't letting them in.
the swell of darkness begins to expand, dissipate - no. separate into ghostly creatures that begin sinking into the bodies of the townspeople, who abruptly begin turning on one another and clawing, biting, devouring one another in a wild frenzy.
chaos is erupting...
and the distant, unnerving sound of inhuman voices is coming closer as the demons make their approach again...]
[ooc: PLEASE WAIT FOR SUBTHREADS! GO! You can set up additional subthreads under the current ones for the castle if you find them necessary.
NOTE: you are free to NPC guards pushing the townspeople back/townspeople desperate to get inside. the spirits WILL be possessing weak-willed people - if they get in your character's body, you can fight it, or will be possessed/be crazed until sun-up, attacking friend and foe without care. demonic characters are immune.
THE CASTLE WILL BE INFILTRATED TONIGHT. a subthread will go up for it as floors are breached.
there will also be guests making appearances in various places around town/the castle. I will link their intro's here!
