Out of the House

We rarely watch movies in theatre nowadays, and I managed to pull Odi away from AoC and out this last weekend for a lunch/movie thing. We thought about watching Sex and the City, but I gave a few suggestions to Odi and he said we should watch the movie that we probably wouldn't remember about later, so we ended up watching The Happening. I have ( Read more... )

Yesterday I read a blog post from an online friend who said pretty much the same thing-- not worth the money and the trip out to the theater. Bummer it didn't turn out as good as hoped.

I would, however, HIGHLY recommend Sex and the City-- I expected to enjoy it, but didn't expect to enjoy it THAT much! :)

So, curious-- why would Odi suggest you watch a movie you wouldn't remember about later? Doesn't that defeat the purpose of spending that time and money to go out to the theater?

He was saying I should watch it because we won't remember to rent it later at the movie rental store ("Happening? what's that?") but we'd definitely remember to rent Sex and the City. I'm planning on watching it with mom when she visits :)

I usually take reviews with a pinch of salt. Mark Wahlberg is one of the few new(ish) actors I admire, although he hasn't yet done anything really big yet (Maybe "The departed"). Was kinda hoping this the happening film would be it, I was kinda surprised by this choice of role, didn't expect to see him in a thriller. However a load of bad or far from positive reviews can't all be wrong about a film.

There's really nothing out there at the cinema(theatre) these days that I can tag as a must see movie. Even the recent Indiana Jones movie I didn't go to see. I think "Dark knight" people will see for all the wrong reasons and will kinda overshadow the film.

I don't think Star Trek is due this year but that's perhaps the only film I will drag myself down to the cinema to watch. I might be tempted to go watch the Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon emporer. Beyond that only vaguly intrested by Wall-E.

I didn't even read the reviews until after the movie, and while I'm not in the "OMG M. Night Shyamalan rocks/sucks" camps, I'll have to agree that this is nothing like his previous works I've watched (the Sixth Sense and Signs.)

I say go for it after it comes out on dvd if you don't mind the gore, but I think those scenes didn't contribute positively to the film.

I can't remember who said it to me, but someone summed it up perfectly. When there is too much gore, too much action, too many car chases, too many explosions, it's all there to hide the weak story.

I remember walking away just having watched Kill Bill vol 1. And she was raving away about how good the film was, I was left wondering what the heck she was smoking??? I sarcastically said I didn't need tinted glasses any more because all I could see was red.

If "The happening" is all gore, I think I'll pass.

I wouldn't say it has too much gore, but I don't think it would've taken away from the movie if those events were only hinted instead of shown on screen.

I'm just not a fan of stuff with too much blood and/or action... I usually squeeze Odi's arm and make him cover up the screen for me when it's too gross, heh :)
