It was totally a small thing, but it made much more difference to Shawn than he would ever admit. His dad had the newspaper article cut out and sitting next to him on the front seat of his truck- the article about how he- Shawn- had solved a kidnapping and murder case. So, while Dad's mouth was saying, "I'm not okay with this," he was still proud enough of Shawn to clip the article to scrapbook or show his poker buddies or send to Granny Spencer in Miami or whatever. Knowing that Henry was grudgingly proud gave Shawn a stupid little kick, as if he were still seven and had just earned the fudge cake.

"Shawn, are you okay?" Gus asked, looking at his friend with a worried expression on his face.

"Yeah, I'm fine." Shawn made a face as Gus put a hand up towards Shawn's nose. He batted the hand down. "What are you doing?"

"Your nose." Gus poked at it. "It's uh- swollen or something."

"What? No it's not." Shawn touched his nose to check. It felt fine.

"Yes, it is, Shawn. I don't know how you don't feel it." He pulled his sample case up onto the table and opened it to sort through the medicines.

"What are you doing?"

"I've got a new facial anti-inflammatory in here." He pulled out a tube and handed it to Shawn.

Shawn looked at the label. It read Pinocchortisol- Indications- for reduction of nasal edema due to repeated or prolonged exposure to falsehood, untruth, propaganda, psaltering or out and out lies.

Gus was giggling girlishly before Shawn even looked up.

"Mom, where's Dad going?" Shawn asked from the spot just on the other side of the doorjamb from where his parent's had been "discussing grown up things" very loudly. The "discussion" had ended with his dad abruptly exiting the front door.

"He, he's late for work," his mom answered before blowing her nose and wiping her eyes.

"Didn't he work last night, too?" Shawn, ever observant, inquired.

"His work is important. He needs to work more than other daddies." His mother started clearing the dinner dishes.

"You miss him when he's working? That's why you cry when he leaves? Me, too."

"Oh, Sweetie." His mom put down the casserole dish in her hands and stepped over to him to tousle his hair and hug him. "I know."

"Hey, Buzz, old buddy, old pal of mine, how's the little boy cat?" Shawn asked, coming up behind the young officer and slinging an arm over his shoulder.

"He's fine, he likes my shoes, sometimes a little too much," McNabb answered smiling.

"That's great. So, where's Lassiter? He wanted me to meet him here." Shawn turned to Gus for affirmation, "He did say here, right, Gus?"

"Oh, yeah- 164 South Main. This is the place," Gus replied.

"Is he already inside?" Shawn untangled himself from Buzz and started to duck under the police tape.

"Uh, yeah, but he told me to keep everyone out."

"Of course he did," Shawn agreed, "he doesn't want just anyone tramping through the scene. They might disturb the residual psychic vibrations before I got here."

"Oh, that makes sense." Buzz stepped aside and let Shawn and Gus through.

"Oh, wait, wait, Gus, when we go in there, call me Jake, okay."

"Okay- why?"

"That's what they think my name is."

"Okay- why?"

"Because I had to give them a false name when I was here before."

"Okay- why?"

"Well, I couldn't give them my real one. Would you just-"

"Okay- why?"

"Because I gave my real name when I called before and that didn't go well."

"Okay- why?"

"Because I thought that only Rolland was dirty, but-"

"Okay- why?"

"Because Rolland obviously knew about the discrepancies in the ledgers, but he was covering it up. I thought he was in it alone-"

"Okay- why?"

"Because he- Gus, name your three favorite letters of the alphabet."

"O-K-Y"

"Just call me Jake, already."

"Okay- Jake."
