But Jim hasn't been stringing Pam along with a 3 year engagement and a now loveless relationship and she has a backbone so... not the same thing at all, really?

I keep wanting to edit and end up pressing delete (yes, I'm THAT dense. Thank you for asking!) so... whatever. I'm not rewriting that. XD You probably have my comment in your email notifications anyway.

I don't hate Alex at all and I am taking this conversation too seriously, but. I don't think Jim and Alex are at all comparable. Their situations are completely different.

When Jim encourages Pam in Boys and Girls, or any other time really, he's known her for years. They've been best friends for years. He's seen the continual unhappiness in her life, the loveless relationship she's in.

Alex, on the other hand, has known Pam for, what?, a handful of months? I can't really judge how close they are really since we've only seen them around each other twice, but I'm willing to bet they aren't anything more than casual friends. And while I think that what he said was a good thing for Pam to hear from someone else, I also think that it was presumptuous of him to even think he had a place to say something like that to her.

So, yeah. I think the situations are entirely different. But. I'll stop taking this all so seriously now.

HAHAHAHA!
I just read that entire conversation out loud to my roommate (even though she would be one of those people who likes jim and pam just for the sake of them being jam. I'm closer to you guys, though not QUITE there) and we laughed hysterically. the ending? bahahha! I'm thinkinggg...future writers of the office? you two would surely know how to keep those fans happy. or something.
I love you for posting this.
